Why did Google think these would be a good idea to implement into Android?
Burn in is a severe issue on the most popular Android Devices (Samsung, Amoled) on Google's own line up (Pixel, Pixel XL and the high end Nexus devices) and even lesser known devices (LG V20 / G6, LED IPS)
These buttons cause burn in on LCD and Amoled screen, and we're not talking about cheap devices, these are high end devices too.

I have an HTC 10. I've lost count of how many times I dropped it. It's nearly indestructible

I think you're making shit up.
They've had these buttons since Android 3. Putting them on screen allows them to change, interact with the display, or get out the way for extra screen space.
Samshit has their shitty version of Android and their off screen buttons, one of the only brands to still do that. They don't use the onscreen buttons at all
I've had 2 Sony and one cheap LG phone with zero issues over the past 5 years.

Posting from my V20 WITH SOFTKEY burn in.

>Samshit finally caught up to everyone else and has made their fork of Android less shitty
Genuinely surprised, but not surprised they don't know how to fucking get the screen right.
As an Android dev I'll never understand the US's love for shitty samsung phones. They barely edge out on arbitrary benchmarks, rarely bringing anything others don't have to the table, but their implementation of Android is all fucked up and just awful.

God, you are a fucking idiot.
>>60788450
Only idiots buy samshit Android phones.

You do know the Galaxy S8 doesn't have burn in there since all those button images slightly move around on the screen, right?
>>60788048
I've never had those burn in on my lcd phones but they do some damage on AMOLED. The notification bar is worse though.

I don't fucking know. Physical keys are incredibly useful for the tactile feedback, softkeys are cancer and I avoided getting any phone with them foor as long as possible.
>>60788048
samsung didn't have this problem you retard....
they have physical button
>>60788048
soft keys are cancer, i dont even care if they burn screens. I have never used a phone with soft key buttons and never will. If they stop making phones with hardware buttons I will go back to flip phones instead.

>Putting them on screen allows them to change
They never need to change.
>interact with the display
What's stopping capacitive buttons from doing that?
>or get out the way for extra screen space.
If they were separate buttons they wouldn't need to get out of the way.
>>60788048
Oneplus has the best implementation

I love HTC 10 too.

b-but muh extra 10 pixels of screen space
