Manufacturers rarely release the drivers sand firmware for devices so people have to try and get them from stock ROMS. This obviously leads to issues where you are using old chipset firmwares on a new OS resulting in problems

As an ex-iPhone 5s user I respectfully disagree.

1.) Android has always gotten updates and the ones carrier locked get OTA updates.

2.) new android versions aren't necessary since old ones still get updates. Though if you really want the latest you can install Lineage OS.

3.) Updates on iOS cripple older hardware in a desperate jewish attempt to get people to buy the newest turd apple shat out. My iPhone 5S became laggy as shit when I updated to iOS 10. I don't get this problem on my Oneplus X.

Finally I would like to point out that not all android smartphones are created equal. Samsung for example makes it their mission to include the latest tech in their phones but ruins it with bloatware and a shitty app launcher. Though it can be fixed by disabling the bloatware and installing a 3rd party app launcher. There's also the problem of long animations on android but can easily be fixed by setting them to 0.5X through the dev menu.

Made the right choice in 2014. Three years later this is still a fluid in all tasks and well supported. Battery life could be better, but its not a deal breaker.

I think you can look at the numbers I posted to figure out why. There are 2 billion Android devices, but only a tiny fraction of them are on the latest OS. It takes about two years for a critical mass of Android users to finally be on a "new" OS. So anything introduced in Android O in May won't be picked up by developers for two years.

So there are around 140 million Android devices on the latest OS, and around 602 million iPhones on the latest OS. iOS has a larger addressable market for the latest APIs.

A really great example of how valuable this is, is when Apple released iOS 7. This iOS had lots of design changes, a much more modern design than the skeuomorphism that it started with. The same day it released, dozens of apps on my phone (and likely thousands across the ecosystem) had updates to match the new design. It caused an instant change.

Android Devs don't have that kind of pressure.
