Laptops, tablets and "cloud computing" once fibre optic becomes widespread. At some point it'll just be simpler to centralize more intensive computing because the loss of speed of sending the data over for a supercomputer to take care of it and send it back will be less than the loss of speed of computing it yourself even if you have a really good PC.
Nearly everything has a 24/7 wifi connection already so I could easily see the big operating systems integrate this kind of thing in their OS, while more basic computing can just be done in the OS because even the cheap CPUs do so much more than you need.
