So what's the Dell's version of Thinkpad T430 or higher? Are there any with metal body like in some HPs? Also needs to have a good battery life and no numpad. Screen could be IPS when mine just has the awful TN now.

Post T420/T520/X220 Dell has been ahead of of Lenovo.

Not to mention Dell has been shipping laptops and desktops with Linux, so you don't have to support Microsoft with your hardware purchase.
