i'd seriously try to convince him that gaming/desktop-like laptops always wind up being the worst of both worlds. at first it sounds great if you can afford it but the reality is that it winds up being too clunky and cumbersome for you to ever want to actually use it as a laptop. they also lose their performance capabilities way faster than desktops will so you wind up after a couple years feeling like you're stuck with a creaky pos clunker that doesn't even have the advantage of being fast
