Which is better for gaming and movies, etc, in a living room?
I'm thinking a screen around 40-50".
Is anything above 1080p pointless?

Monitor if you're looking for the absolute best in terms of total input lag, pixel response time, motion blur, accepting 120hz+ inputs, etc.
TVs are still good, in game mode + no interpolation, if you want a larger display, better contrast (due to full array led backlighting on some models), and better resistance to glare from lights.
Check out rtings.com for measurements on lag, motion blur, color fidelity, and more.

when you're above 32 inches buy a tv. Unless you want to spend like $100k on some giant thing with monitor quality specs. Resolution depends on your preferences and viewing distance.
Avoid TVs since most of them these days are botnets.

PC monitors are usually better since those rely on user input. Giving them a focus to reduce latency. TV monitors are usually for movies or videos meaning latency is not really a priority.

TV. Preferably the non-smart variety.

>Preferably the non-smart variety.
I thought they went extinct.

They are.

That's what retail stores want you to think.

You can easily disable that shit.

>projector meme
Never fall for this. These are only good for a dedicated theater room
>>60727991
but bro, do you not want to come play halo on my sweet 100" tv?
>>60726823
The main difference is brightness.
TV's are much brighter.
Which is good if you use them from 2+ meters away.

It's cute that you think you're disabling them.

Kek, I had a few friends who did this, I told them not to, but they all thought you just get a huge ass screen for nothing.
In reality, you get a washed out picture with no contrast on the bare wall with all blinds closed during the day.

I literally take out the parts in question. It's simple.
Guise, I still can't decide what to go with.
Is it really that easy to disable smart shit?

>implying there are any PDP monitors in existance
literally everything you named LCD/LEDs are notoriously awful at doing. plasma on the otherhand are immensley better in every way.
