If you're looking for an android solution I've been using Disa.im as a facebook/sms client. Its great and lets me talk with normiebook friends without messenger bloat

They did. There is different plugin called purple facebook that works with new facebook protocol. Original XMPP plugin is dead and was actually removed in last update.

I use this at my office since employees talk on google chat and all of google's official clients are horrible. It's bretty good. All the kiddies use Discord now for personal chats don't they?
