I really like your posters desu, though if I were you I'd separate them out a bit so the center bezel isn't so huge.

I've got some big changes on the way! I may be swapping out my 5k monitor for a very rare IBM Model F Kishsaver keyboard that I've been trying to get my hands on for years, and I'll take that opportunity to get a big ass 40 or 50 inch (would appreciate your opinions on which size to go for) 4k TV as my main monitor and I plan on either extending my current desk somehow or get a different one that goes all the way around my room.
>>

>>60711850
Yea I should separate them a bit, the only reason I put them so close is because there were massive holes on the wall.

Like selling or trading the monitor for the keyboard?

Don't use a TV as a monitor, they're not meant for that. Refresh rate, input lag, are things to consider.
Also that is huge for something your going to be so close to.

I think a 4K 32 inch monitor or something would be best.
>>
>>60712097
As someone who has both:
>>60711621
I think that, unless you have a remarkably deep desk, anything larger than a 28" is a bit too imposing.
>>
>>60712097
Going to be directly trading the monitor for the keyboard in the next few months. And eh, I don't game at all anymore, at least not online so input lag wont be noticeable. I've already hooked my PC up to my current 4k tv and everything was as smooth as I needed.

32 inch 4k does sound good but I want to use 100% scaling so I can get more shit on one screen, I'd need 40 inch + to do that.
>>
>>60712161
My desk is 90cm deep, I think it'll be decent enough. I'm blind as fuck anyway desu
>>
>>60712176
I'd say that's spot on, it scales nicely with a 28" on a 75cm deep desk. Where the dicky hell did you get a 90cm deep desk?
>>

How much does the monitor cost, and what does the keyboard cost?

Searched online and it seems you can get the keyboard for around $399.99 or so, If I remember correctly you live in Europe so the prices are probably different.

Are you okay with having such a large TV so close to you? If it doesn't matter then go for it! Whatever makes you feel comfy.

I always go with Samsung for TVs, they're great. I have a Plasma that is more then 10 years old, and is on everyday for a long time.

Something like this looks good.
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN43KU6300-43-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B01DUTL4OI/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1496428512&sr=8-4&keywords=40%2Binch%2B4k%2Btv&th=1

Or if you want curved.
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN43KU7500-Curved-43-Inch-Ultra/dp/B01EBGJYSC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1496428706&sr=8-2&keywords=curved+4k+tv
>>
>>60712244
What do you mean which way to position them?

Unless you buy a diffuser of some sort having leds on the front of a desk is gonna look like shit, only leaves the back and one of the sides if it's against a wall.
>>
>>60712251
The monitor cost me about £1000, I see them on ebay in the US for about $1600 and Amazon US for over $2000

If you've found an IBM Kishsaver 6019284 for $399 then link me? They are impossibly rare

And yeh definitely am comfortable with it, I've always felt 27 inch monitors are too small, even my 40 inch tv feels kinda small (I blame the 60 inch tv downstairs)

And yeh I'm torn between Samsung SUHD and LG SUHD, they seem to be as good as OLED but without burn in problems.

Cheers for the amazon links, I'll have a look

>>
>>60712386
Oh shit that is cool, I see. They look pretty close to the original also. I did notice that the USB looks a bit iffy, don't they usually come with RJ45 or PS/2?

You have quite the collection of Model M keyboards ey? I ordered one a few months ago but canceled because it wasn't one of the regular ones.

I might get one eventually, but just for collection. They are quite loud, and I don't want to disturb the family. I type a bit at night.

They do indeed, the originals came with a proprietary connector though as they were designed for use only with the IBM banking terminals. The connector sort of resembled a Serial port. my model F 107 had the same connector but I replaced the internal controller with an 'Xwhatsit' which makes the board fully programmable and also adds USB output - the remakes use this as well which is why they are USB out of the box.

Definitely do try and pick up an ibm model m, they are fantastic boards. Unicomp have some original new in box model m's on their warehouse liquidations page

http://www.pckeyboard.com/page/product/1392015

Only problem with this is they are ISO and have a few weird latin keycaps but a complete 101 keycap set from unicomp is only $25 so for like $110 you could have a brand new original.
>>
>>60702102
looks like a comfy neetstation anon, don't listen to people
>>
>>60712433
I looked into this a week or so ago. Almost all diffusers I could find were aluminum tracks you out the leds in, which would look worse than just regular leds. My suggestion would be, if you just had to have leds on the front of the desk, would be to put a layer or 2 of that frosted scotch tape over the led strip. You will still see the led itself through the tape as a bright dot, but it will get rid of the harsh light coming off the strip.
>>
>>60712556
Couldn't I get an original IBM one for less or around that same price?

I like these

Could I possibly add o-rings or something to make it not as loud?

Loudness of the keyboard does not come from the key bottoming to the keywell but from the spring that "kinks" when you go over certain pressure

The cables are trivial too completely hide but I'm in the process of figuring out what to do with my monitors and also replacing my router/mouse soon so I haven't bothered. Ii just put a piece of tape around them all annd then tape them to the back of the desk. I'm thinking about doing 2+1 with the monitors instead of just three wide.

Do you think those two keyboards that I linked are decent?
>>
>>60712943
>Do you think those two keyboards that I linked are decent?
Unicomp keyboards are of considerably shittier quality than "genuine" IBM model M.
The housing is thinner, the keycaps are thinner, the whole thing is a lot lighter.
Molds are worn out (they actually use genuine IBM molds they found in a warehouse or some shit), so the result molding all kind of defects.
The typing feel stays roughly the same but the audiovisual sorrounding the keyboard suffer, especially the sound. You should know what I'm talking about if you ever used one of these old model Ms. There's this deep "clunk" when you press a key.

But they do use USB/PS2 interface and they do have a Super key which are both crucial features for someone like me.
If you have nothing else to spend money on just get one and see for yourself. You can still fucking resell it later and lose 10-20 bucks at worst.
>>
>>60712869
>>60712943
You could get a unicomp variant for that price but you'll lose things such as the original ibm badge, the removable cable, and the thicker steel plate. The best way to silence a model m or model f is to put dental floss in between the springs. It doesn't necessarily quieten them but it does stop the pinging noise giving just a loud click instead.
>>
>>60712915
You could try to find frosted fish tuning or something like that. I can tell you something with a frosted translucent look will work the best.
>>
>>60713044
>>60713048
I guess I am better off with the original, I want the better quality. Especially if the keyboard cost around the same.

I guess I'll look on that site for a IBM one. Or at least get the one that was first linked with the keys.
>>
>>60713311
The only two IBM boards they are selling now are latin American with either IBM or lexmark branding. I bought the last ANSI Model M :P

Zowie mice(all of them), Logitech g pro, g502, g403, g900, g102, g100s, Razer deathadder(only listed for it's shape, fiitss my hand better than any mouse), Mionix(all), Roccat Konne Owl Eye, Fiinalmouse one, Nixeus Revel.
Pic related is end game for rpg/non-gaming
Yeah, i know, I can't make up my mind either. Leaning on g403 or death adder atm.

Liking your desk choice ;^)

Just upgraded my rig with a 1080 and i7 6700K.

I need new speakers and a solution to properly play DiRT Rally.

The monitors can be extended until the edge of the desk, but they can't go lower than 90cm total above the ground when in landscape.

Does anybody have experience with something like a Playseat? Handbrake would be a must.
Seems like the monitors would be too high.

Any suggestions for speakers and racing sim setups very welcome. Looking to spend $500-1000 each max.

It's water resistant but still natural so that I could eat from it. Usually used for kitchen wood.

It's called OSMO TopOil High Solid

Sold the M13 about a year and a half ago, when I got my MacBook Air. Couldn't stand the poor ergonomics of having such a large keyboard any more.

I gave the T23 to my dad to use for a while, but he soon got a MacBook Pro for himself, so the T23 is just sitting in a box. After we move I'm going to unpack it and mess around with it again. My MBA developed keyboard issues and it's a huge disappointment.

Still have the toy tanks also. Just in storage due to the moving.

You're the first Anon to say cables and desk is organised. Because it's not a gimped micro-keyboard, wireless mouse, and massive speakers with fuck all else, most moan to fuck about how "messy" the desk is lol. Thanks Anon.

"Need" is a strong word for the monitors. I got the 4x ultra-sharps for £90 together, delivered. Might as well use them. didn't take long to make use of all of them. I use 3-4 pretty much constantly, and the others get used as I start doing work or multi-tasking. Waiting to build new Ryzen build to allow more things running constantly over all screens, without getting lag in games or slowing shit down because CPU is at 40% just running other screen's stuff, and not what I'm primarily doing.

It's all electronics test equipment. At the current time I have two digital oscilloscopes (one with FFT), one analog oscilloscope, two signal generators, two bench DMMs (with nixie displays!), and a regular handheld DMM, one DC PSU (and another dual DC supply in the mail), and the pride and joy of the collection is a scalar network analyzer from Agilent, 10kHz to 180MHz for all your IF filter design needs!

>>60728781
I'm a student as well and my current job doesn't pay particularly well. My current living situation is what affords me the ability to buy equipment. I figure buy it now while I have the money since I might not later. Besides most of the equipment isn't that expensive. Most of this stuff was acquired for under $150, often under $100. The network analyzer was by far the most expensive at about $500 but even at that price it was a steal since network analyzers often retail for over $1000 used and new units can cost more than a luxury car.

I have some immediate plans to use it to characterize the bandpass filter for a swept tuned spectrum analyzer I'm designing but beyond that it's really just something I have for when a design necessitates it. I might end up doing some RF work in the future and I could see it coming in handy there as well. It's definitely not an every day use instrument. I only got it because I had a project in mind where it would be useful and it was a really good deal.

I've been trying to buy a proper spectrum analyzer for my bench as well but the prices are always too high. I found a dynamic signal analyzer going for $99 recently but some idiot early bidder drove the price up over $300. It probably ended even higher than that. I'll just have to settle for FFT for now, which is fine for low frequency work so I guess I'm not complaining.

let's be honest anyway, that Blade Runner book is "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?", just re-titled, theres also The King in Yellow and Treasure Island on that shelf. are those REALLY bad books? Aren't t hose basically considered literally classics by now?

seriously though, I don't care. I enjoy reading what I enjoy reading, it's more fun to me than tryhard philosophy and russian classics, or whatever passes for "good" these days (according to 4chan).

Game patent anon here, they are giving me this bad boy with 3 monitors for free.

I am taking it, and most likely setting it up.

That would be a total of 5. My only concern is heat generation, and that those free monitors are not 1080.

>something awkward about all those slightly different toned pieces of furniture right alongside each other

Mom, please leave /g/ and go back to pinterest or whatever.

She has complained about the same thing quite a few times. I really don't mind different wood tones being mixed together. If anything it gives a little variety and I'd probably find it too bland if everything matched.
>>
>>60734713
Calm down son, looking at your station just got me a but worried about my own bedroom. I have the same thing going on in there but at least the pieces of furniture are separated a bit.
You could mix it up a bit by putting little matching tablecloths over the two tables flanking your main desk.
Or, y'know, be a real man and sand them two shits back and stain them the same color. I'd go with tablecloths myself as I'm lazy and cheap.
>>
>>60734833
My dad built the shelves for me some time apart. I actually tried to stain the second one the same as the first, but I had used all of my supply, and the company discontinued that particular stain so I couldn't get more. I had trouble finding another that was a good match, so I ended up just going with something completely different which was the lighter of the two. I ended up liking the lighter one better, but I'm not sure that it'd be possible to just sand the darker one and give it the lighter stain.

Plus I'm moving soon so who knows what my future setup will be like. It's kind of intended to be another temporary living situation though, so I'm probably not going to invest in new furniture and stuff until we get our keeper house. Then I'll go crazy with building the perfect furniture and setup.
>>

Where do I go from here?

I've been getting increasingly claustrophobic about by desktop space since I began working in VR (I spend most of my time in there since one huge display wrapped around me is easier to work in than physical space constraints), and have now upped my monitor count to 4 (4.5-5 if you count UW as two).

I know I need a new desk, proper mounts (such as some ergotrons maybe?), proper monitors (the ultrawide is fine, others are not), and a real workbench.

Any suggestions?
