I'd never open my library to the internet manually or stream it outside my local network, but plex obviously phones home when it feels like it, even just to download metadata from public sources. I like the convenience and presentation but something rubs me the wrong way about it being able to check all the stuff I have and act online accordingly. Literally 5 minutes and no GPG bullshit. The only way for staff to catch this would be, once the disposable email is posted, but before the real anon makes contact, to intercept this and make contact themselves, thus making the invitee send his real email to staff. But even then the user sending the invite won't be banned.

Of course at any point staff can beg for an invite and ban whoever sends one to them but there's no way to verify someone isn't staff so that will always be a risk.

There are entire guides about how not to get banned for poor ratio. Random people buy dedicated servers just to out-bandwidth other people and get the swarm to prioritise downloading from them. There are scripts that automatically download files that are new and likely favourable for ratio, and these are often recommended as "essential" - meaning tons of people just automaticlally download a bunch of random shit they will never actually watch/play/use, just because it will give them better ratio. And notice how these scripts specifically snatch new and hot torrents, so you can't even argue that it helps keep rare torrents from dying by lack of seeders because those usually have no leechers either 99% of the time, so are mostly useless for building ratio.

If I was the only one struggling this that I don't think all those measures would exist.
