I tried the Ubuntu subsystems on Windows, and it honestly doesn't work as well as I had expected. Files made on either windows or linux are not immediately visible on the other until after a reboot.

Linux doesn't have the Spyware(tm) if you care about that.
I have a laptop where the wireless driver actually doesnt work well on windows, but dual-booting into linux it works fine.

I wouldn't count it out yet. It still has ext4 which doesn't fragment and can be more lightweight.
>>
>>60697930
>and can be more lightweight.
I meant Linux can be configured to be more lightweight than windows.

Window managers like i3 are also absent on Windows.

Bash has been running on basically every Unix-like system since the 90s. Microsoft is late to the party.
>>Windows has all the major development tools, inlcuding Visual Studio
All I need is GCC and Sublime Text, and both work fine on Debian.
>>Windows has all the games available on Steam and other digital platforms
Buy a console if you want to play shitty games and get buttfucked into purchasing a million DLC packages.
>>Windows has the best driver support on the market by far
Is that why you can't use the iGPU of the latest Intel CPUs on Windows 7? Microsoft blocks drivers on purpose for certain hardware. The driver situation for Windows is just a clusterfuck in general. If you plug in a mouse on Windows it takes 10 seconds to install a driver for it. If you plug in the same mouse in a computer running Linux, it works instantly.
>>Windows has Microsoft Office, Adobe Software, and all the professional tools (Linux has Gimp kek)
A majority of people here aren't graphic designers for a living. Also, GIMP is nearly the same as Photoshop. If you absolutely need Adobe or Autodesk programs, you can use OS X, because even that's better than Winshit.

The professional software argument always annoys me. Obviously use cases differ but I can't imagine people on /g/ requiring everyday use of professional video editing software.

Google docs has pretty much replaced word and powerpoint, though there may be a case for still needing excel (still, gnumeric or calc should be sufficient for most).

Apparently everyone is a professional image editor nowadays that requires photoshop? I didn't use it when I was on windows and I sure don't miss it now. I needed to make a logo a couple of months ago so I installed inkscape and was done with it.

1.Bash was never an exlusive. Even before wsl you had programs like cygwin. It's not even bad that it happened, it actually made windows tolerable
2.and it's a pain in the ass to find a good IDEs and the libraries on windows which is why including a package manager in wsl was a good idea
3. That is not window's achievement
4. That is not window's achievement
On the other hand drivers on linux are linux's achievement. And drivers are much better on linux i can plug a fucking silicon graphics GPU in there and it will work.
Try installing windows on a hard drive and then move it to another machine, surprise it won't boot. Try doing the same thing on ubuntu ,it works(source: i changed my motherboard and cpu and had to reinstall windows)
5. Ms Office died after 2007(and it works perfectly under wine), adobe software is filled with ram leaks

Linux has: Davinci14 ,blender,kdenlive,openshot,PiTiVi,opensubmerve(pixar-made thing),lightworks,gimp,darktable,krita,gimp,audacity,ardour,OBS
6. It does and we open alternatives based on the spotify api that work better just in case shit happens.
Also stop listening to low quality music from spotify use a private torrent provider FFS.

I own a 5 year old laptop and with linux it's smooth as hell. I once thought buying a decent gaymen computer but I decided to buy a better monitor, amp and and some cheap bookshelf speakers and installed linux on my laptop and since it ran so smoothly I never even considered upgrading. Windows was a pain in the ass compared to what I have now. 700€ laptop from 2012 running perfectly with a good monitor, mechanical keyboard and decent audio equipment, feels good man. I don't even like playing video games any more because I don't have patience to play them for more than 15 minutes before stopping and doing something else.
>>

>Windows has bash (the only worthy Linux "exclusive")
As mentioned by others bash has never been exclusive.

>Windows has all the major development tools, inlcuding Visual Studio
Visual studio is one of the major development tools linux doesn't have but it has others like jetbrain's
>Windows has all the games available on Steam and other digital platforms
Fair point but games are not the only reason to choose an OS and the amount of games grew a lot recently to the point that it's a reasonabily good games platform.
>Windows has the best driver support on the market by far
True but i has a lot of other flaws linux don't have. The design of distros like ubuntu are better than windows and to this date the only problematic hardware i've found is hardware that needs a windows-only user space tool like razer's. Also to be fair the hardware support ootb is much better on linux, most haedware even from a live session without touching anything and the few ones that not its drivers can be fetched from a GUI directly available from the OS.
>Windows has Microsoft Office, Adobe Software, and all the professional tools (Linux has Gimp kek)
Probably the most valid point but linux has it's own software catalog that includes proprietary professional tools like bricscad or davinci resolve and for most people google docs actually is better than MSO because it's cost-free and you don't need to install anything. The only few areas where i haven't been able to find a professional tool is civil engineering.
>Spotify isn't supporting Linux anymore
It works the last time i tried it so i don't see the point of claiming this.
>So, is there any reason to use Linux as a desktop operating system?

Don't get me wrong, your bait was good but you honestly went full retart with this one (and pic related). I'm gonna rely in a simple way: i'm 100 times more willing to forgive an honest mistake or a problem related to the lack of time or resources than something pushed on me on purpose.

Considering this your original question should be done the other way: considering how Microsoft is treating their own customers and that linux in the present can do pretty much the same as windows except for a few areas. Honestly, is there still a reason to keep coping with Microsoft's bullshit unless you're obligated to use windows?
