40" 4K with two monitors in portrait along the sides. It's tons of real estate you can comfortably use without leaning in (6240x2160@100-111ppi in my case).

I have a 2 ANUS 1080p IPS, one landscape and one portrait. They were both supposed to be side monitors to a 4k centerpiece but I'm still waiting for 4k media to actually be a thing.

Continued: Found out HDMI before 1.4a or something like that cannot do 144Hz. How do I know what version of HDMI my PC has?

And is a Mini DisplayPort the same as DisplayPort, just in a smaller form? Cause I've got that as well and it seems like it always supports 144Hz.

But holy fuck. Nobody knows FUCK all about monitors online.

Every time I google a simple question on this topic I get thread after thread of bullshit like, "No nvidia card can support more than 80Hz ever! nvidia told me on the phone!"

Why the fuck is it so hard to figure out if my laptop can handle a 144hz monitor given that it has one HDMI port, one Mini DisplayPort, and a GTX 1060?

A third of search results say no.
A third say yes.
A third are incomprehensible gibberish.

I'm not gonna drop $300 on a monitor that might end up being locked at 60hz and useless to me. Is that why this problem exists? Monitor manufacturers and graphics card makers don't want you to have any clue how this shirt works together so they can sell to an uninformed populace?

a surface 3 screen (2160x1440) in portrait on the left and another on the right, then a 3440x1600 for main screen and then a regular 2560x1080 on top of it.

That's the ideal envirenment. Maybe add a CintiQ to draw dicks on.

You draw really fucking good on the CintiQ?

Is more intuitive, has more tools and it has a btter tace and shit than 50€ shit. It's ussually for pros, but you could get a second handed one if you are into drawing dicks to chicks.

I am not into that tho. Just saying, if you draw and have the money to burn, then why not go pr0.

I'm hoping 144Hz is as glorious as people say it is after spending years on 60Hz. I'm a broke ass college student and that purchase probably means I'm gonna be eating rice and veggies every meal for 2 or 3 weeks.
>>
>>60699801
as long as the cable supports 144hz then you can use an external 144hz monitor with your laptop
>>
>>60704224
I bought it off of Craigslist.
>>
>>60704225
N-not bad anon. Enjoy. One day, I hope I too will experience 144Hz ;_;
>>
>>60704263
Problem being, most cables don't list how many Hz they support. Some evenspecify 60Hz, but at 4k or something like that. So I bit the bullet and bought a $7 mDP to DP cable because multiple googled comments said any DP cable will transmit 144Hz.

>>
>>60704349
Are you fucking retarded? If the cable's specifications list 4K60, then it can definitely do 1080:144.

>>60704331
60 fps is a slideshow compared to 144
>>
>>60704845
How would I know 4k @ 60Hz means it can do 1080 at 144Hz? How is that any difference than my 1080p monitor not being able to jump from 60Hz to 120Hz if I just drop to 720p or something? how do I know that the frequency in the line isn't fundamental to the cord's construction?
>>
>>60704886
Because it's about the amount of data that can be transferred per second, whereas the monitor needs to be able to actually display that data.

opinions on this: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1UH57Y9712

32" 1080p monitor, it's so big because the screen is far from me. think like almost living room, couch to tv distance. My current 32" samsung tv is having backlight issues after 2 years, so gonna try a monitor this time (never needed the tv part but having a remote and multiple inputs was nice).

trying to keep it under $250 if there's suggestions

I actually looked into this monitor at one point, apparently the quality control is shit but getting a replacement is no problem. Some people had to send theirs back 5+ times before they got one without dead pixels, but the people who have one without any issues are really happy with them.

How do I get one for $400?

Currently using a triple monitor setup (3x 24' IPS). I've been considering dropping them for a single ultra-widescreen display. I hate having to switch between normal desktop mode/surround mode which makes me never even use the feature. Also the FOV at on the left and right monitors are fucked up and warped in surround/eyefinity mode.

So is ultra-wide a worthwhile switch or is it just a meme at this point?

Gaming on a 60 Hz IPS screen for about 1,5 years now, and i keep getting told that i need to invest in a good 144Hz monitor.

Almost every review site tells me this is the game. It looks great on paper, but hella expensive.

Problem is people say it got terrible problems with BLB and IPS glow etc.

Are there no alternatives now or in the near future for 1440p 144Hz gaming monitors?
>>
>>60720531
Interesting. I will probsbly be going for the 40 just not sure if extra monitors on the side or under it.
>>
>>60725398
TN displays are supposed to be better than IPS for gaming. Faster but with a bit less color fidelity and viewing angle, iirc.
>>
Would it look off if I had a 2715 as my main display, and a 2515 as a vertical display to the side? I've heard they size windows/text differently.

40" 4K is nice, but left/right screen edges is a bit too far away. It's not very comfortable to read stuff at 30 degree angle. But it doesnt mean that 34" is better - it have too low ppi and low height.
Side monitor is nice too, but one is more then enough.
