>want to buy a cheap budget laptop for web browsing and video watching
>none of them come with IPS displays...
>meanwhile tablets and phones all come with IPS displays
>can buy a $120 23" monitor that has IPS display and connect it to a $200 laptop for $320 but $320 doesn't buy you a laptop with an IPS display...
Why is it so hard to find a low specced laptop with a nice display? Old people could use them!
>>60692052
You too?
Still using my old laptop with a 1080p TN panel myself. I want a new laptop. I can afford a new laptop. I'm not buying one until I see one with a 1440p IPS panel and preferably Displayport video outputs (I could live with HDMI).
IPS and IPS-like displays have gotten real cheap the last quarters. There was no $120 24" IPS a year ago. Now these are everywhere but laptops have 720p TN panels??? No thanks, not buying that. Don't care if the CPU and GPU is a little bit faster. No way I'm buying anything with a TN panel.

>wants quality display
>doesn't want to pay for it
My £130 windows tablet has an IPS display.
There's plenty laptops with high resolution displays, even OLED these days. Stop being a jew.

If your chicken shop makes shit like that it's too posh for me!
>>60692401
Its McDonald's
>>60692360
Yeah but they start at £600
All I want from a a laptop is an IPS display! I don't care about the other stuff!

--- Sent from my X220 with IPS (£150 from ebay) ---
If you care about getting the best bang for your buck, I would recommend the Apple MacBook Air. When you get the Apple MacBook Air, you're getting more than just a laptop, you're getting a symbol of prestige and professionalism. Designed by the best software and hardware engineers in the world, it is the very definition of perfection.

if you are in the UK or Europe, check clevo/pcspecialist.co.uk you can get 14inch i3 with 1080p IPS for around £500, highly customisable so take the OS out and you save like £50
>>60692052
FUCKING THIS!! just fuck'em!
but i've stopped caring a few years ago really - genetally disappointed how this "mature technology " is looking with laptops
but maybe you will be served fine by a combo of chromebook and used ips screen + used tower running whatever you like
>>60692052
The fact that all screens aren't OLED in the current year is outrageous
IPS is not even the worst problem
>2017
>17 inch TN 1360x768 screen with 5 degree viewing angles
>>60695772
Isn't OLED shit for outdoor use?
>>60692052
Just buy a x220 anon
>>60695839
My phone's screen is OLED and I use it outside at minimum brightness
>>60695791
fucking this
>>60692052
My GPD Win has a IPS screen, higher DPI than retina
>>60693315
a X220 is far too old, even a 2012 MBP beats it in every way
>>60697129
Sure there are plenty of laptops that are more powerful, but you don't need it if you're just web browsing and watching videos.
>average laptop is 1366x768 TN garbage
>cheap phone is at least 1080p IPS or OLED
>even 40$ tablets are IPS now
>not having a 4:3 IPS display in your laptop
>>60697217
Not yet, but soon.
>>60692052
> buy $200 x220
> buy $60 IPS replacement screen
worked for me

Get out you furry fag
My question is, if you want the laptop for web browsing and video consumption, and you want a great display, why not consider the iPad Pro? The 9.7" is like $500 and has just about the nicest display panel ever mass-produced.

>furry
>>60700720
Because it's 500 Fucking dollars when I just want a physical keyboard, ips display and a passable cpu?
>>60700922
Good things cost money, there's a fucking shocker. Here's some food for thought: People who paid $500 for an iPad 2 in 2011 are STILL FUCKING USING IT. And that was one of the shitty, not-yet-mature models. Even when you're done with it, you can trade up easily because of their resale value. I got $300 for a 64GB WiFi Air 2 that I used for a year. I only lost like $150 on the deal, and I put the money toward the Pro I have now.
>>60700958
yeah but then you have to use an apple product.
>>60700986
Believe it or not, I was just like you once.
>>60700720
>video consumption
>iOS
choose one.
>>60701001
lol you saying like you evolved or something
>>60701013
Yeah, I kind of did. I was a big fan of YFGST once upon a time. I made fun of every new turd Apple shat out -- at least, that was the way I saw it.
Then, I had some hands-on time with iOS circa iOS 9, and after giving myself a little time to get used to it, it was quite pleasant. It was at that point that I realized that the Apple hate was really overblown and dumb the whole time.
It still is.

I want a keyboard and hinged screen
>>60697129
maybe because the x220 is from 2011 and the x220 have the power you need if you want something faster and if you arent a thinkpad purist I am pretty that could find a newer business laptop that could do the job in your budget.
I looked at ebay and I found a few ips x230 for less than 600 CAD.
>web browsing and video watching
just buy a tablet fag
>>60701908
>typing
>tablet
Gross.
>>60701047
tragic story
>>60701360
Smart Keyboard. Probably won't miss the hinged screen. I didn't.
>>60703622
How do you keep your tablet at a comfortable viewing angle??
>>60697129
Ok, so do you want a good, decently powerful machine, or do you want a cheap machine for web browsing?
X220 is literally more than enough for all my day-to-day tasks, and I even do some older/lighter gaming on it. It can take a little bit of hunting for a good deal, but like I said, I got mine with an IPS and an i7 for £150. Doubled the RAM and added an SSD for another £70 from amazon. I now use it more often than my 15'' £900 asus.
You could go for an X420 for somewhat better specs and a larger form factor. It might be marginally more expensive but it should still be extremely easy to stay well below £300 even with a couple upgrades (like more storage).
If you want something more, then yeah, it'll cost money. I'm not sure I understand why you shoot down good budget suggestions as "too old/weak", and shoot down well-specced suggestions as "too expensive". If you want a high-end machine for £200, that's not gonna happen.

>X220
T420, sorry.
