Alright, don't schill. What's better? Windows 7 or 10?
>>60679247
ok honest opinion here
>die hard win 7 "I WILL NEVER UPDATE" user
>starting to see less drivers for Win7
>starting to see stuff not available on Win7
>old machine is getting slow
>first installed W10 ENT. LTSB on my laptop
>realized it's faster
>test drove it a few weeks
>moved my whole fleet of puters from Win7 to Win10 ent LTSB and Win server 2016
>fast as fuck, not looking back
Just that fucking start menu I hate and the two control panels, other than that, it's the same but faster............
smart people have both, along with a loonix partition in case things go tits up
Windows 10 Enterprise
If you're one of those mouth-breathing "gotta have muh gaymes" people, then Windows 10 is better for you. Sure, it's loaded with crap like advertisements and surveillance, but at least you can run your precious DirectX 12.
For other uses, Windows 7 is better, and Linux is best.

10 LTSB 2016
>>60679483
this sounds like a responsible answer to me.
I have 10 as my main, Had 7 on my old laptop to use older programs like "total video converter" (till my gf fried it playing skyrim after told her no games) and finally have ubuntu on my pi hooked to the tv.
gentoo
>>60679685
pi is for random web browsing.
>>60679483
this sounds like a terrible answer. Why would you have both Windows 7 AND 10?
>>60679725t
different setups, why throw out an old rig when you can ues it for something else.
yes I'm a poor fag.
>>60679725
I have both because I've been modding skyrim that uses more than 4gb of vram. Microsoft did a update a year ago for 8 and 10 that limits directx 9 games to be limited to only 4gb of vram, windows 7 was left untouched from the update.

Windows 10 is fucking shit, but it's better.

Like you describe yourself, one would think you know how to use tcpview.
Yet it seems like you don't. Put tcpview in autostart and reboot your pc and just do nothing. At least 4 connections, sometimes explorer.exe, sometimes searchui.exe (and/or cortana), sometimes svchost and most of the time all of them. Your pc directly connects to the internet and never closes the connection.
Ever tried to deactivate it? OOshutup, antibeacon and all that? It won't stop it. Deleting searchui.exe crashes the system and it won't boot. I archived to make w10 completely shut up but that means disabling everything, starting by updates, cortana, most of your taskbar-functions, some network-functionality and so on. I am just sad about it... that is all.

XP.
Fun fact: XP still gets security updates, because most of the POS terminals run on XP.

It's still the same Windows line, so generally speaking you can run most of the programs you want in both, which is the important part.
It isn't really like a "98 vs XP" or "2000 vs XP SP3" level of difference.
Telemetry issues aside, when it comes to UI and general customizability out of the box, Windows 7 is the clear winner here. You don't really need third party programs or registry editing to have some control.
Or have to wade through two terrible control panels (the messy shit from Windows Vista or the bloat of the newer one).
Or have to copy over an old version of desk.cpl to change the window metrics.
Windows 10 feels like a prison at times.

This has been going on since the preview.
Windows 7 doesn't have this problem.
>>60679247
10 is horrible, but better.
7 is good but lacks some modern stuff, if it still had total hardware support this days it would still be 10/10.
For windows 10 use LTSB 2016.

If limited to wangblows, windows 7, it's not even any kind of question. You're comparing a mediocre OS with the worst OS the world has ever seen.

7 until a replacement is found
Windows 10 will have no place anywhere due to microsoft's fuck ups with it, starting with the aggressive campaign to gain foothold, the always transmitting bullshit and the "options" that can't be disabled unless you're on enterprise versions, without even the assurance that they can be disabled for sure there, since even with the option off it is still sending bursts unusual bursts when it download updates
Windows 7 will follow XP eventually, and when the time comes I'll probably switch to Linux+Wine then, I'll fucking compile Arch to usability before I even think about installing Windows 10
>>60679247
7 is a lot better.
>>60682577
Just use gentoo. Perfectly usable and stable from the get go.

Not a shill here, I used windows 7 for a long time, but windows 10 is far better. In fact, besides the shitty start menu in Windows 8/8.1, that OS was an (albeit slight) improvement over windows 7, which was easily remedied with a custom start menu addon such as classic shell.
Now besides the morality of the tracking features on Windows 10 (the majority of which can be turned off), it's a far superior OS and only stubborn, paranoid autists will say otherwise.
windows 7 on my desktop, no reason to upgrade
windows 10 on my portable "hybrid", I don't think I can change it, but I'm imagining windows 10 is better overall for those things.
>>60687220
>the majority of which can be turned off
Empirical tests show otherwise, and if you block the traffic from outside the OS the whole damn thing stops working. M$ says the telemetry is vital to OS operation then guts it for a special Chinese release. Windows 10 is objectively superior in most regards (especially hardware support), but the gaping security hole that is their spyware is a huge no go. With NSA backdoors (or cracks if you honestly believe that) being leaked to the likes of cyka ransomware authors it's clearly just not safe to give big brother the keys.

>>60680280
true but a lot of stuff in w10 is using internet all the time, just use netlimoter and stuff ull see they barely use any speed and u can disable all the stugf that uses a lot of ur internet
>>60679247
I went back to Windows 7 a few weeks ago and it wasn't like I remembered... Bit slow on things, multitasking as well. Performed well when doing tasks / gaming though. A clean OS.
Windows 10 is alright, just clunky and takes a while to get used to. Also a lot of annoying shit to disable / uninstall. Privacy invasive too, if you care about that.
If you can upgrade to 10 for free, do it... Otherwise stick with 7 until support runs out.
>>60687906
I personally love 8.1 (with a start menu program ofc.).. However Nvidia Drivers for Pascal are broken AF and they don't care since it's like 5% of the market share. Much better version of Windows 7 IMO and not full of bloatware / spying like 10.

I've seen this countless times and still ask myself two things: what is that panda thing and which Windows is the green haired one? Vista?
>>60680018
Why the fuck they would do that?
I run both and I kind of like Windows 10 that little bit better. OK it takes a little getting used to but once you configure it for how you want it to look and work, it turns out to be a pretty nice OS.
My gaming rig runs Win 7 an I think I'll be updating that to Win 10 in the coming years because more and more places are gradually dropping their support for it.
>>60687339
The only good version of Windows 10 is the chinese version.
