I think the issue is with production. They've gone the server market with the launch of EPYC and THREAD RIPPER
If they went with consumer GPU's, they'd leave major business high and dry.

That's the whole reason nvidia loves dx11 - their drivers basically take control over the game rendering and they pick and choose what they actually render or not. Ideally it's great because it let's them optimize better than clueless devs, but in practice it lets nvidia's driver engineers fudge graphics quality for better performance.

And it's also why they don't like vulkan/dx12 - can't pull that shit so easily anymore. The drivers are slimmed down, the games work closer to the metal with less driver obfuscation and "interpretation".

If Vega has a Ti level card, then it's late for like just 5 months compared to Nvidia flagship. As a 980 ti owner, I sincerely hope AMD Vega brings some competition to the market just like RyZen did to the CPU market. I would love to go with an all red PC again, but nothing AMD offers even touches my 980ti let alone the 1080/1080 ti.

Then again knowing AMD, the drivers will probably be months late, i.e. worthless. I was an early adopter of the R9 fury and it had nothing but problems. C'mon AMD. I already have a 1700X. Yea I know. I have a 60hz 1440p panel. My 980ti drives it nicely, but there are some games that drag the fps under 60. Rare, but there are. I was looking at the 1080ti because it easily does 90+ fps in 1440p. And the 11GB vram will be nice as well. I was at microcenter, about to purchase the Zotac 1080 to amp! Extreme, but then thought about Vega coming soon.

I waited for Ryzen even though everyone said to not bother and just buy Intel. I was gonna get the 6900k, but waited and Ryzen was a huge hit. Maybe we'll all be surprised by Vega. I hate playing the waiting game.
