It's the first DE I chose and it's pretty good. I like that everything is styled with CSS so it's simple to edit themes.
Though I want to switch to i3 since I don't really use any of the functionality and I find myself positioning windows like a tiling WM but setting it up kind of sucks. It seems like I have to write a script for automatically using a second monitor as primary/disabling my laptop screen and xterm doesn't use it's settings from Xresources anymore, etc. Eh, maybe some day.

How so? Cinnamon is a resource hog, but it's very close in feel to older windows. The familiar environment would make this the best for transitioning into Linux. No?

Cinnamon isn't even that bad on resources. about the same as other nice DE's like Gnome or KDE. my Cinnamon uses about 300mb of RAM which is nothing

I actually prefer Win10 default to Win7 default. Though Windows classic is easily better than either.

Nah, win8 is fine; it's super easy to get rid of the metro crap (use start8), and then it's basically just a more up-to-date win7.

The crap in win10 though is impossible as hell to get rid of cleanly.

Cinnamon is the best gtk DE

Cinnamon performs poorly with dual monitors for me. Dragging windows is jerky as fuck.

Anybody have a fix? Nvidia drivers

Pretty much. It's the prefect DE. Eveything works and works really well.

I have a desktop. I don't know how else to explain it, it just feels off.

Also, on the topic of this it's irritating how there's a bug with Firefox and having no titlebars. If you fullscreen it with your panel at the top while autohidden, you can't move a tab into another firefox window. Really only affects people with a multihead setup I guess but it's just these little things that put me off of it.

That being said since gnome devs are jumping the shark I might go back to KDE as a jerk reaction to get away from that cancer

MATE is a gnome fork though, and probably one of the best DE's on the market all things considered

although I guess GNOME 2 really isn't "GNOME" anymore
