CPU performance has increased this much if you go by server ones.

GPUs do it by adding moar coars. GPUs did embarrassingly parallel work for a long time whereas CPUs had to shift to something different which created a hitch.
But with 32core EPYC coming out this year, and 48 core next year, that is likely more than a 1.5x increase year-over-year.

And considering that 40% of the pins on AM4 are not connected, we may see 12 core s on AM4 within a year or 2 that are also better perf per core.
