AMD not trying hard enough.
>>
>>60657714
They jumped on the IoT bandwagon too late and with way too much money

They jumped on the AI bandwagon too late and spent too much money

They were too conservative with the development of PCIe 4.0, should have jazzed up the frequency considerably

etc
>>
>>60657714
Focusing on stupid gimmicks like Optane and trying to hard to get into mobile spaces, while failing miserably at it.
>>
>>60657804
Although optane was released too soon, the 3D Xpoint technology is definitively not a gimmick. But they need to work on solutions where it sits on some memory bus or specialised bus rather than on the PCIe bus. Having persistent memory that's only slightly slower than RAM is definitively going to have an impact.

AMD shat over Intel with Ryzen.

Skylake-X pushed 5 months sooner than expected, now you got this toothpaste TIM abortion housefire at 2.8GHz that needs a minimum recommended water cooler to function.

>The LGA2066 socket is compatible with LGA2011 cooling solutions, which is a plus. However, Intel now recommends water cooling as the minimum cooling option, which will add more cost to the overall solution.

Not as much of an impact as having an architecture that doesn't scale like shit.

>Having persistent memory that's only slightly slower than RAM is definitively going to have an impact.
DRAM is like 8 times faster and has virtually unlimited write cycles

Ghost of Netburst.
>>
>>60657714
That's easy. They believed they had the x86 market on lockdown forever and could jew the fuck out of consumers to fund their attempts to diversify into additional market segments where there would be more growth opportunities.

The last thing they expected was for AMD to catch them with their pants around their ankles and absolutely fucking push their shit in. The worst part for Intel is that this is still going to get A LOT worse for them before it starts to get better.

AMD is skipping Zen+ and going straight to 7nm Zen2 next year (it's already taped out) on GoFlo's 7nm process, which they got from IBM and is designed to make high clocking CPUs. Zen2 will be at 7nm AND be capable of higher clocks than Zen, while Intel is stuck on their current dead-end arch until 2021 (Intel's 10nm is slower than their 14nm and has 1.7% yields).

Lost the mobile battle.

Normies didn't renew their obsolete desktops. They just use their phones.

They're not innovative enough.

For example, they created these small-form factor PCs like the NUC, but never attempted to create an alternative to ITX systems. Basically NUCs with desktop CPUs, which would actually provide a true alternative to currently remaining desktop PCs.

NUCs are too gimped to be a true alternative. So they didn't really replace older PC systems.

>current year
>still no powerful CPU that doesn't require fan cooling or an awkward installation for water cooling

>NUCs are too gimped to be a true alternative. So they didn't really replace older PC systems.
They were also overpriced as fuck. Intel seemed content with jewing the entire x86 market to death.

Still I continue to use Intel because of Intel neon

>NUCs are too gimped to be a true alternative.

Agreed. For example, I would love to have been able to use a NUC as a server, but I need to support a 8TB HD, and there's no way a NUC can accommodate one. I'd even be willing to sit the HD outside on top of the NUC case, but it just isn't possible because a NUC is too gimped.
>>
>>60658284
Intel has like 95% of the market. I don't care for their business practices but AMD still needs to come a long way and for a long time before they dethrone Intel.
>>
>>60661191
It took ~2 years for Athlon64 to eat through Intel's marketshare.
>>
>>60661191
You don't realize how large the performance gap will be when Zen2 gets released next year and Intel is stuck re-releasing Skylake for another 3 years.

This is going to get VERY ugly for Intel until their new arch is ready.
>>
>>60661191
Once the ball starts rolling it's hard to stop, AMD lost over 30% of the market after Bulldozer and their entire server market.

They can only go up, even 10% of the server market is some 1B revenue for AMD, that's massive money for them who made Zen on fucking pocket change.

DELID THIS!

So they even made own water cooler
>Enter Intel's own recommended cooler. You can buy the Intel Liquid Cooling TS13X as a separate product. It features a 120mm fan, 150x118x37mm radiator, and an $85-$100 price tag.

I heard the i5 is the new i7, if so, it's going to be funny watching clockfags reccomend the 4c/8t "new" i5 over literally every other CPU in both Intel and AMD's product lineup.
