Why would FF 57 change anything? uMatric and uBlock are literally the only extensions you need. And this is a technology board, and as such there is no alternative to Firefox/its derivatives unless you're a shill or a spewing Windblows user.

What would I use instead? It's not like I'd be able to move to Pale Moon since they fucked up and pretty much all the addons I want are broken now which would put me in a similar situation to Firefox after killing old addons, and meme tier browsers like Qutebrowser offer less features than Pale Moon with the few addons that it still supports while using more resources.

And how can the site you're going to identify anything from those addons if you don't have javascript enabled?

>inb4 but javascript is required for most sites
Fingerprint with javascript enabled has advanced to the point where you would need standard hardware in addition to the same browser, browser configuration, and OS as a significant amount of people in order to not be uniquely identified.
>>
>>60649788
Fingerprinting seems like the least invasive and easy technique to implement for firms interesting in tracking/ advertisements, but I know very little about it.

Is there anything a user can do to prevent clear fingerprinting aside from middle bell curve browser set-ups?
>>
>>60649818
If you want to discuss this in depth then make a thread about it. There's too much information on the subject to summarize within a couple posts.
>>
>>60649360
Because the old addon model is a maintenance nightmare and it's getting in the way of fixing the internals of firefox. If they tried to keep the addons working they'd probably just break at various points in the future and piss everyone off, instead they've decided to cut to the chase and just do one breakage and give everyone the heads up well ahead of time so they can work on porting their addons to the new addon framework.

Every time there is this thread I always wonder if there are really going to be that many disabled extensions. Nobody seems to be able to name more than two addons than won't be ported. Still, the only rational option if you miss XUL addons that much is moving to Palemoon. Moving to Chromium is dumb as fuck in any case.

I use ungoogled-chromium too but I can understand people avoiding it since it's rarely updated and you lose a lot of addons and customizability that Firefox has

>Why are they killing their extensions?

Go to about:support in your current Firefox and see if you have "Multiprocess Windows" enabled or not.

Having quite a few extensions enabled will force it to be "disabled". Oddly this is mostly not because the extensions block it but because Firefox will just block any extension which somehow tells Firefox that it will work fine with this. Why, for example, will the Memory Restart plugin block it? There's no technical reason but the Mozilla corporation seems to think that just blocking everything that's not updated the last month is the way to go.

Perhaps they should stick with being a humanitarian aid organization like their homepage https://www.mozilla.org/ make it look like they are and let someone fork Firefox and make it a good browser again.

>FF 57 is actually when I move _to_ Firefox, as it will become faster, and to escape the Google botnet.

There is nothing new in FF 57 related to speed that isn't already there in the current versions. The only change is that now the new rendering system is disabled if you have legacy extensions. If you don't have any extensions then there's no change. As of FF 57 it just force disables legacy ones and everyone gets the "Quantum Compositor engine".

There is, however, the issue of the new user interface
https://www.neowin.net/news/mozilla-is-working-on-a-new-ui-for-firefox-57
which will clearly be another huge step backwards.

I guess Mozilla really wants to push all their users away from Firefox so they can focus on being a humanitarian aid organization. Their website is already re-designed for their new purpose.

for exactly the same reasons they don't engage in explicit botnettery like google or microsoft. as a non profit its in their mission to fight for the health, independence and freedom of the web and its users. i'm not going to defend brendan kike or those who campaigned to have him sacked either. but eich was still spooked.
there is literally ONE extension that is actually useful that doesn't have a WebExtension equivalent and that's self-destructing cookies, and that's a good candidate for mainlining anyway. everything else is either shit, useless, or out of date and unmaintained.

Just use Complete Youtube Saver which can directly download just the audio stream without needing to download the entire video nor do any sort of conversion.

File size is smaller, download times are quicker, and quality will be better.

For reference, there are three audio formats on YouTube - Opus, OGG vorbis, and AAC/M4A

Opus = highest quality, lowest compatibility

OGG vorbis = medium quality, medium compatibility

AAC/M4A = lowest quality, highest compatibility

Also note that 720p and higher has higher audio bitrate than 480p and lower.

No they don't. They just migrate to an extension standard that works in all browsers and not just in firefox. In the end this should mean that extension developers only have to write one extension to support all browsers. That's actually good for Firefox or am I missing something?
