>>
>>60642854

Ryzen has fucking great scaling. Isn't it something like ~98-100%? I think I remember reading somewhere that their SMT is actually >100% scaling with cores in some use cases. I want to see these MCM benchmarks.
Infinity fabric is looking to be AMDs holy grail for the next while. I wonder what improvements they can do to it in the future.
>>
>>60642755
Cache sizes are wrong.
>>
>>60642913
yeah, intel buffed L2 caches a lot for memeX512
>>
>>60642905

1:1 with ram speeds unlike half rate it runs on the ryzen chips. Infinity fabric running at 2133mhz (or potentially higher depending on if anyone makes a superfast ECC kit) would give shitloads of bandwidth which makes MOAR COARS even better.
>>
>>60642919
>meme512
Nothing uses it.
>>
>>60642881

100 off each of the 6c and 8c would worry me as AMD, but Intel is going to have to cut much more off their 10c/12c/18c if they want to sell them at all. I'm expecting the cheapest 16c Threadripper around the price of that i9-7900x (~$1000), with the flagship 16c around $1400. Witch how well Zen scales and how Intel chips scale comparatively, at those prices 10c/12c/18c SKLX is DOA.

>100 off each of the 6c and 8c would worry me as AMD

AMD should be fucking worried about that possibility. It is one thing to pick a fight in the desktop space where Intel doesn't give a fuck but it is another to go starting a war in the data centre- Intel will play really nasty there. Given Intel can afford to make monster monolithic dies for the big boys that AMD has no answer to and give hte cut down scraps to everyone else AMD sure as fuck better be out for blood - now everyone is playing for keeps.
>>
>>60642994
>AMD should be fucking worried about that possibility

>>
>>60640982
we should all be happy. we're finally going to get competitive processors now
>>
>>60643017
>competitive
These are rebranded 1S Xeons, in no way they can compete against higher clocked Threadrippers.
>>
>>60643011

At this sort of level motherboard cost is basically irrelevant - its all about I/O and performance.
>>
>>60643038
Then Threadripper wins, no contest.
>>
>>60643017
there is zero competition here anon, Intel is releasing super expensive nuclear holocausts while amd is releasing good processors for a sensible price
>>
>>60643035
i'm talking about the lower end 4c/6c/8c ones. looks like they'll all come with hyperthreading
>>
>>60643058
Why the fuck would you buy overpriced HEDT platform to use 4c/6c/8c shit? 4c abortions have no lanes, and 6c/8c is limited to 28 lanes only. Its shit.
>>
>>60642994

I don't think Intel can compete in Data center until they pull out a new arch or unless they change their pricing/segmentation/performance drastically.
People have been getting fucked over my Intels segmentation for a long time. 1/3 of 2S Intel servers are only populated by 1 CPU because of how Intel segments their chips. These companies just need I/O, not a 2S solution. Epyc provides a shit ton of I/O/power efficiency/compute power, on a single socket.
Also, to the monolithic die argument, Intel CAN make fuck huge dies, but they are not cheap to make, yields on those get worse and worse. Epyc is made up of 4 8c Zepplin dies. The yields are >80% for those things. AMD can mix and match the binned chips so you can have 32c Epyc chips that sip power or ones that clock up to 4GHz all core at a decent voltage+temp. All while being cheaper to produce, and probably better than what ever monolithic die Intel comes up with.

The single threaded on all those HEDT abominations is going to blow compared to their 4 cores. You're delusional if you think otherwise. And it's not $200, more like $400 once you add in the cost difference between the CPU and motherboard combined.

I assume you meant "several times" or maybe "a million billion times" there, which is laughable because in real world benchmarks they are at most 25% ahead with their 4 cores compared to Ryzen 8 cores. With 8 cores you're looking at maybe 12.5% ahead.

Anyway I keep seeing "evidence" that proves that AMD is completely BTFO and ryzen is an utter meme compared to intel's cpus. Since according to you random benchmarks are irrefutable evidence, that clearly means that AYYYMD WILL NEVER RECOVER, BTFO!!!!.

When I actually want to upgrade my CPU I will do some research and find actually trustworthy evidence. One thing these shill threads did was make me doubt Intel, so I'll definitely be considering AMD when that time comes. Until then, I can't be bothered to form an opinion.

1800x doesn't even beat current offerings. It beats intel mainstream in multiplecore, and is competitive with a stock clock 6800k in all respects at stock clocks, but all benchmarks that have RYZEN winning are when intel CPUs are gimped, and RYZEN are paired with fastest memory that works, or with obscure software with weird settings.

What will be even funnier is when AMD just adds another 8 core CCX to bring out a 24 core consumer processor, rather than some botched server rebrand like Intel is doing.

Zen architecture scales perfectly, they can just keep adding more 8 core CCXs, with great yields and for cheap.

Intel is royally fucked.
>>
>>60642994
>can afford to make monster monolithic dies for the big boys that AMD has no answer to

Have you been living under a rock? The Zen architecture scales ridiculously, you can just keep adding more 8 core CCXs and weld them together, it's much cheaper and they have much better yields.

Intel has to print one huge die at a time, and if any of the cores have flaws, they have to scrap it, or cut it down to a lower core variant.

AMD will probably come out with 48 core and 64 core server variants soon, and Intel won't be able to keep up. I'm sure AMD probably has patents on connecting CCXs in the Zen fashion too.
>>
>>60657141

>>60643048
Remember Ryzen has 6 and 8 core CPUs in its lineup. If the motherboard to use Intel's 6 and 8 core are bare minimum $200 and likely close to $400 for something worth a damn, Intel's not competing with Ryzen.

Once you go past state cores this is where Intel will compete with threadripper, and at its base Threadripper's 16 core could come in at little under $700. Don't get me wrong I think that's unrealistic and were looking closer to $1000 at minimum, but this is where it gets interesting. AMD has a lot of room where they can play around with pricing just completely butt fuck Intel's i9 series. The main factor that determines what AMD sets Threadripper at is how much they want to fuck Intel.
>>
>>60646699
How much money does Intel actually have in its war funds. I know they pissed a fuck ton of money away on shitty acquisitions that gave them nothing. Modestly wondering how much Intel could actually fight if they went into a price war, because Intel would be selling at a loss to set their CPUs that AMD prices, but AMD's making a fuck on a profit per CPU sold.
>>
>>60643828
AMD is currently noncompetitive and GPU front. For consumer GPU's they'll likely be price-performance, but I'm not holding out hope for them being better than that Nvidia's offerings. Long-term probably better but not better up front.

In the professional space Nvidia has so much shit lockdown on proprietary software that AMD can't just barge in without their own, and to my understanding AMD doesn't have their own libraries yet which is an active detriment to them. There was a point in time when Nvidia was skimping on the RAM on their professional GPU's so AMD's were far more useful because they give you 16 GB of RAM. Nvidia stopped skimping and that pretty much eroded any advantage AMD had.

I don't know how useful having the nvme on the card itself is cache is gonna work out, it probably gives them a huge advantage in certain scenarios but it's not to be an overall win. With Volta it appears that Nvidia is putting on an asic for machine learning and this erodes any advantage AMD was going to come out of the gate having with 16-bit floating-point performance.

CPU wise AMD's clearly ahead of Intel and Intel doesn't have an answer for the next 3 to 5 years, but GPU wise AMD's hurting until they can figure out how to MCM a GPU and have it all work within firmware instead of relying on developers to make software patches.

When one megabyte L2 be really good for a lot of different applications? And correct me if I'm wrong but this is the reason why there is xeons with the shit ton of L2 cash that cost of fuck load that are segmented away from the consumer CPUs even though spec wise outside of the L2 they're basically the same.
