>>
>>60636339

I grew up using Macs

They are now complete shit and if you think otherwise then you are a post-iphone mac user
>>
>>60636339
No. I actually hate the Mac Studio more after having used it than before having ever touched it. I don't have anything against the hardware (excepting that cancerous keyboard) but the operating system was just trash.

I had to use a Mac Studio in a computer imaging course because it is supposedly an industry standard device. If it is, then I certainly don't want to be a graphic designer.
>>

My first computer was actually a Macintosh. One of the really old ones. It didn't strike me, at the time, as a computer that you could do work on. It was just a fun thing to play with. Of course, to be fair, this computer was from the nineteen nineties.

I have 3 very close friends who were making fun of me using mac in the past. They all 3 are now apple users.

1 of them has iphone, ipad and macbook pro and second guy has ipad pro and iphone. the last one only has ipad but wants to buy iphone too.
>>
>>60638106
Sounds like you and your friends are a bunch of normalfags. You know what that means.
GET THE FUCK OFF MY BOARD YOU FUCKING NORMIE SCUM
>>
I used to really like them, but their current lineup since Steve Jobs died is questionable. The pursuit of perfection is no longer a goal of Apple.

Little things, like the antenna lines, make it look like they're some problem yet to be solved, when in fact, it was already solved years ago with the iPhone 4. Apple has become a meme of its former self.
>>
>>60636339
i didn't care for apple one way or the other until i used their products. now i think they're trash.

worse yet, even if their products were good i still wouldn't buy them because their main clientele are insufferable lower class retards that think financing a $800 phone or $2000 computer over a few years is a sign of wealth.
>>
>>60636339
Only thing I liked about Mac is "colors" and rendering of them, dictionary, ibook reader.
Everything else is garbage.
>>

I disagree. I have a Mac at work and don't use it.

This statement happens to be completely true. I hated apple, now I have two hackintosh's as well as my old 2nd gen ipod.
OSX is truly amazing, however building a hackintosh is much better than buying a cannon apple product.
Apple should do more software design instead of hardware.
>>

I liked Apple and I have an old MacBook, one of the first ones with Intel processors. But eventually I had installed Ubuntu and get redpilled. Since then I had been a Gentoo user for 1.5 years and recently I migrated to Debian stable. I'm indifferent to Apple and hate Apple users.

I have used a MacBook Air, a MacBook Pro, a 27" iMac, and two different iPads. None of them were mine, but I got to use them long enough to find my way around OS X and establish an opinion as to whether I want any of them.

I dislike Apple as a company, but I have no strong feelings towards their products and I can't say that I "hate" them. But I don't understand why I would want any of their products. None of them are appealing or particularly impressive. Decent at best, objectively shit (see: throttlebook pro, and the keyboard even macfags hate to use) at worst.

I would not buy another Apple product. Apple has gone dramatically and hilariously downhill since Jobs died.

I got a free MacMini years ago. It was a PITA to use it because it's not able to detect monitor compatibility. If you use a non-Apple monitor and change to an unsupported resolution, it won't even warn you that it won't work nor would it change back to the original resolution if it doesn't work. Fucking stupid design. Windows didn't have this problem. It won't lock down the resolution if it doesn't work.

I was always thinking Apple products were shit. Then, I've got my hands on MacBook Pro which I worked on for about half a year. I had realized how wrong I was. Apple products being merely shit is a huge fucking understatement.

Been an anti-mac person for many years, but got the chance to buy a 2014 MacBook Air for almost no money a few months ago.

It looks and feels nice, is light, and has a huge battery. I really like it. I was gonna resell it but it's my main laptop now, and I enjoy it daily.

I switched to PC ages ago for design, There was a performance advantage in the PowerPC G3 days, but it went downhill the second Apple switched to Intel.

You can see online everywhere that the Emulated PowerPC version of Photoshop CS3 ran better than the native Intel version of it on OS X on the same computer.

This was one of the most ridiculous things

Apple basically said "we are doing it for perf and power!!!!"

then 64bit PS hit windows and then mac ages later

With GPU accel in PS you would have to be a fucking idiot to use mac now. Especially if you are a photographer or other type of professional who needs a workstation that can have an extra HD tossed in it without eating up desk space.

The Mac is supposed to be so much faster with a Quad core and dedicated GPU, but everything is over and done with in less than half the time on the Surface, it's fucking ridiculous.

The Surface is definitely a strange choice for the department to make, but it was still a massive upgrade from the Macs.

I can honestly say it's the exact opposite in my case.

I don't have any opinion one way or the other until I actually tried using an iphone and a macbook. I found it extremely frustrating, probably because I'm very long time GNU/Linux user and Android user. I may also matter that I switched from Windows around the time Windows 98 and I don't like that either. But I do think Windows is better. I personally can't do much of anything on any of those but I have noticed that one key difference is that a Windows user can show you how to actually do something and a Macbook user will just tell you that you can't do that on a Macbook.
>>

Used to use them - used to have an iMac and successive iPhones between 3 and 5.

I literally got cucked with their proprietary DRM iTunes formats and disastrous products - including the iPhone 4 antennagate shit. Lion operating system literally destroyed by iMac with bloat that I didn't want.

You also start noticing their cuckery on the phones - like you upgrade your operating system just before the release of a new phone, and all of a sudden your phone starts running slow.

Nope - never again. After years of cuckery I'm finally running Linux on my PC and android on my phone. It's more responsibility, but better control.

>they are actually not all that Apple's massive marketing machine makes them out to be nor anywhere near the pricing that Apple demands for them.

Disagree. Ipads in particular are very reasonably priced. Iphones a generation behind can be found very good prices on places like Amazon, Best Buy. There is an absolutely massive resale market on Amazon, refurbished and clearance section on apple.com,

if you can't wait for sales and buy something the day it fucking comes out for full retail price, then yeah.

otherwise, the "massive marketing machine" is a meme in itself. Apple to me is transparent, straightforward, and clear in their presentation. you get what you see

Dell XPS, Microsoft Surface, any devices in the "category" of something like a MBP you will find match it's price point accordingly. Overpriced yes, but to the degree that some chinkshit hoarders will have you believe, no.

To be fair, Applel doesn't even list the fucking CPU models in their "configurator". They show frequency and whether it's an i5 or i7 and that's all you have to go by.
Want to know which CPU you're buying ? Head on over to ARK and find the one that matches the frequency Applel listed.

I was using arch/win10 daily and also i hated macos/apple
2 weeks ago i switched to macos at our company, and now i can say that its not that bad.
I mean its not perfect, it has a lot of flaws
Just some of what i found

- 2000+17 macos cant use dual screen wallpapers, the only solution is to cut the picture in half and set it to the first monitor and the second
- i had to fight with the mac when i tried to connect a 2nd monitor, but it didnt worked til i plugged out from the electric socket
- Horrible, developer unfriendly keyboard layout, most of the necessary characters like ()[]{};@ are in different place, for example
command+q -> quits the app, option+q -> @, most of the time i closed the browser when i tried to type an email address. oh and you can buy an app for 10$ which opens a dialog everytime you press quit combination which says if you really want to close it.. bullshit
- my dock randomly changes place between the two monitor
- if you disable the status bar on one of the monitors, then if you want to fullscreen an app then he 2nd monitor goes black and unusable.
- some animations were laggy, especially resizing, maximizing etc, and its an mac with i7 so meh...
- if you hold shift while you open a quick preview with space button, somehow the animation slows down and gets bugged, idk whats the reason behind this.

after i spent 1 day to fix those issues i can say its not that horrible

I've been a Windows fanboy for over 15 years. Last month, I got a new job where all work laptops were MacBooks.

I've had plenty of High End Windows laptops, but they just aren't as good. Whether it's the display, the trackpad, the general build quality or the speakers, they always lack behind in a way.

I'm not saying the MacBook Pro is perfect. The touchbar is a joke, for example. But it is a pretty fucking amazing machine.
>>
>>60641192
As an owner of the MBP 2016, I can confirm these issues. However, most of them are very minor and in the end my development experience is still better than on a Windows machine (in my opinion).
>>
>>60641192
idk bout dual screen but cant you make the second screen a different desktop and new wallpaper?
>>
>>60636389
What were the 90s like? You sound old
>>
>>60642480
Yes, i can but basically if i want a dual monitor wallpaper then i have to cut it in half and set it for each of them, its a workaround for that but it i have to mess with pictures. so yep i picked 2 different wallpapers instead
>>
>>60642478
They are minor issues i know. And for development after i successfully did the layout change for keyboard i can say that its a better experience for development purposes.

Used a Macbook for about 3 months. Got it stupid cheap off some guy who pretty much stole it (like $20 who the fuck sells Macbooks for that low nigga learn the market at least). Ended up hating it because everything I wanted to do required jumping over an extra hurdle or two that I wouldn't do in Windows, wasn't as fun to play around in like my few Linux distros, and I absolutely hate that stupid chiklet keyboard.

Only used it for the same reason everybody else does: to use it in public to showoff. Eventually I just decided to resell it.

For several reasons starting with that I can't use my own 64 gb microsd card that I got for 60 bucks at the time they are much cheaper now.Shit battery life. I drop the fucker once and usable and broken after that. Bought cheap LG phone for a fraction of the price. Work phone is an ishit 7 plus, stock latest iOS

Opening a PDF and downloading images from a fucking website is a big ordeal for this locked down piece of shit

Not to mention that their UI design is absolute dogshit. It's like they made no effort to make the UI work on larger screen sizes. Stock keyboard is dogshit, dedicated emoji button in a high typing traffic area is a meme.

Native mail app has spotty push functionality

My half fucked Nexus 5 renders webpages faster than Safari, Open in new tab takes you to the new tab. No option to move around UI elements to make the phone easier to use with one hand.

The stock apps are also buggy shit. I was fucking around with the stock news app just to see if it would work. Muting sites still shows them in the feed.

The fucking alarm failed to ring once. It was set from the app but did not show on the Up Next widget. How do you have a buggy alarm clock on an 800USD device?

The itoy is just that, a toy.

This. The people who hate on Macs militantly are usually Windows fanboys with baby duck syndrome who never used anything else. Yet the people who actually own Macs seem to love them.

I think this is why macfags and linuxfags are so annoying when they first switch from Windows. It's because they're so excited about having discovered something new they had never tried before and genuinely seem to enjoy.

I have an old 2013 macbook air and it's served me really well. The terminal is way more functional than windows command line and all these years later it still boots in like 5 seconds and the battery lasts like 8 hours. I've even gotten linux up and running on it just fine before switching back. I don't see the problem for everyday stuff beyond the usual "NON-FREEEEEEEEE" arguments

I own an old MacBook Air and an iPhone, and while I don't hate them, there are plenty of things I don't like about them. The biggest issue is that when you update to the latest OS supported on the device, they seem to turn to shit. In other words, planned obsolescence. But you're partially right. I know plenty of other computer nerds that have never even used an Apple product and hate the company with a passion because either A) it's an area of computers they don't know or B) all the other computer geeks hate Apple, so you must not know your shit if you don't.

PCs will always be better for getting work done, but I kind of like a Mac when I just want to laze around and browse the internet and shit.

>but I kind of like a Mac when I just want to laze around and browse the internet and shit.
I never quite understand that. If you are only doing things that literally any other device out there can do just as well, why would you use one of the most expensive ones? And even if money is absolutely no concern for you, why use a totally different ecosystem to the one you're used to at work? I seriously have trouble understanding that.
And having used macs for years, I found even these basic tasks more frustrating to do on them.

I guess that's where we have a difference of opinion then. While I can do more with Windows or Linux, I also feel like they're more fragile for that fact. I can tolerate it when I'm working on something, because I need the extra control and am willing to fix stupid little problems to get things done, But if I want to just relax, it's nice to have something a little more simple and stable to use. You can argue that OS X is less stable than Windows, but that all comes down to personal experience, and in my experience with all three OSes, Windows and Linux are far more prone to having stupid issues than OS X. Not because they're inferior OSes, but because there's more freedom to configure them and break things if you're not being careful.

Just as an example: Tonight I was trying to watch something in Windows 10. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but something sounded off about the audio coming through my headphones. So I start doing some research online, and it turns out that there's an audio effect setting turned on that's supposed to make it sound like you're in a home theater when you're listening through headphones. I turn it off, and problem fixed. How'd it get turned on? It was my first time even seeing the setting, so I can only assume that either A) MIcrosoft thought that users would want that by default, or B) something I installed somehow turned that thing on. This is not the sort of thing I'd run into on my MacBook. However, at the same time, if I need some specialized editor or small tool with a very specific purpose, chances are it's going to be written for either Windows or Linux, so I'm not going to give those operating systems up over minor inconveniences like that.
