I might've misunderstood you, but BGA means Ball Grid Array and in this context probably means that the CPU is soldered to the motherboard which you won't be able to change without some serious equipment.

Asked about this in previous thread but made a video now, dunno how useful it is.

System has been working fine for the last year, but over the last month its started dying. Having a problem where during games my PC will randomly either just totally shut off, or the screen will go black, I still get audio but I can't do anything other than power it off physically. In OCCT's PSU test, the GPU wont stay at 99% load for some reason, it keeps cutting out, I don't know if this has anything to do with it. I watched some vids of people doing this stress test and their FPS stays rock solid, but mine shits the bed every 5 seconds.

The clicking you can hear is extremely loud and not a noise it used to make, I'm pretty sure its coming from the PSU but I am going to have to remove it from the system to check.

Any ideas what it might be before I rip apart my friends PC for parts to diagnose shit? Thanks.

google - what is compiling
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhC7sdYe-Jg
>>
>>60631157
Any code that can be run on your computer can theoretically be disassembled. There are techniques like virtualization and encryption that can make this more difficult, but generally consumer software isn't going to do this since it will significantly reduce the performance of the software and there's little reason to do it. Making heads or tails of a complicated piece of software that someone already wrote is hard enough when you can see it with all the proper formatting, comments, and variable names in place. None of that information is preserved by the compiler, so it is very difficult to try to interpret code that has all that information stripped out. Additionally, there is sometimes some ambiguity in converting machine code back to assembly, so the person doing the reverse engineering would have to know what function was actually used in such cases, making the job more complex.

And of course when you're talking disassembling you will get assembly in the end, which is most likely not what the project was written in, and the output of some compiler into assembly is likely not going to be all that readable or pretty without a lot of effort.
>>
>>60631157
it is called reverse engineering, hoe do you think cracked software works? Compilation from source -> Machine code /ASM is usually not reversible

Depending on your mouse it might have another device somewhere. My Logitech G700 has something under keyboards that also has to be disabled to prevent mouse waking, you should probably check there if there are any extra "keyboards" that are actually related to mouse functions. Also make sure the bluetooth receiver (if applicable) is also not allowed to wake the computer.

Will I ever find somebody to love /sqt/? Is there even a chance?

I'm a chubby trap, kinda passing. I'm not disfigured or anything, I guess if I lost weight some might even consider me pretty, or at least decent looking. But it's hard, because, every time I'm reminded of my situation, and the fact that I'm unlovable and nobody will ever want me my anxiety levels rise up to 11, and I start binge eating and there goes my diet again. It's probably an eating disorder, developed around when I was 20, but it's either this or committing sudoku. A lot of times I feel like I'm walking in a metaphorical minefield, avoiding this, not doing such, definitely not thinking about that, just to prevent a frenzy.

Yeah, I guess I'm fucked in the head too. I'm terribly recluse, prone to hiding and avoiding people, even friends. Pretty much ever since I was 15 I dreamt about being in a relationship, finding happiness, a family, hoping one day my luck will change. I keep lying to myself that next year will be better, maybe then things will improve, there's no need for suicide just yet, but so far it's been a steady downhill. Thought I hit rock bottom a couple of times, but nope, I find that there's always somewhere lower to sink to.
And there's a lot of feminist propaganda how you don't need a man to be content and all that, but y'know what, fuck that. I lived it for 10 years and it's absolute shit, don't believe it for a moment. It's something salty hypocrite folk tell themselves to feel better about their lives. I could live alone but I don't want to, and never wished to, but it's reality.
Life is garbage. Mine at least. Sorry for ranting.

I found at least one article stating that you can just desolder the pins from a PGA478 CPU and turn it into a BGA479 here: http://geek-mag.com/posts/184876/. Don't know how you would handle with those SMDs on the bottom of the CPU when soldering it into place though.

I probably wouldn't even bother trying this if you have to ask a question like that, but still, good luck with the project!
>>
>>60631370
Sure, anybody can. It's easier than you think, only issue is you have to actively be looking, and keep your standards and expectations reasonable. Don't expect something to just sort of drop into your lap if you're not even putting any effort into looking for it.

As far as the weight thing, it's a handicap, but I wouldn't consider it a deal breaker. There are a lot of people out there and some will be more or less tolerant of it than others. I easily weighed over 350 pounds when I got into my first serious relationship. Dieting can be hard but main recommendation I can give is to make it a routine, and set it up so you don't have to think about food any more than you need to. When I seriously got into weight loss I made sure to set up all my meals the night before, so I could just grab them without thinking when the time came, and since everything was premade ahead of time it was easy to keep portions under control and make sure everything was balanced nutrition-wise. It's hard to commit yourself and take the first step but if you can make it something automatic and easy then it'll come off before you know it.

Main thing though is that you should stop sitting around waiting for your luck to change, and start taking steps to change the aspects of your life that you don't like, one step at a time. Nothing is going to get better if you just sit around waiting for it to. I think if you're actively feeling like you're making progress though, you'll feel a lot better about your situation in general, even if you've still got a ways to go. Just the fact that you're moving in the right direction goes a long way towards helping that feeling of anxiety and dread all the time.

is assembler "final" language that could be? like the next stage is 01010101 for processor or what?
>>
>>60631651
Assembly is basically one level removed from the binary machine code that is interpreted directly by the processor. For the most part one line of assembly can be directly converted into one line of machine code (disregarding some meta commands), unlike higher level languages where a lot of translation and manipulation has to happen first.

incidentally I do have a G700, however all devices I can find under keyboards are called 'HID-keyboard', and none but one have any connection to logitech stuff, and that one doesn't have the wake-from-sleep-settings.

pfsense firewall, or general firewalls

there are firewall rules
they apply to interface
tutorials say they apply only on incoming traffic

and it seems to work with default setting where LAN is allowed traffic
and WAN is blocked, so from WAN you cant do shit

but got me thinking, I do ping command
if theres no rule on WAN to allow traffic in how come the reply comes?

Or same for a webpage, data are obviously allowed in
so logical thing to assume is that if its reply for request its allowed or some shit like that, when its established connection
but isnt that bit of a weakness, a hole?
Like you dont have full control over the interface if stuff can get in williy-nilly when request through LAN goes in

So I put a new PSU in it, and it still does the same thing in OCCT; works for 20 seconds, then the framerate dies. I haven't been able to get it to crash or lock up yet with the new PSU though, so I guess that's the next task.

I don't think it is a software/OS thing, because it does it on Windows, and yesterday I was running CSGO on Linux and it was locking up in that too occasionally.

The most infuriating this is that it's intermittent. Some days it works just fine, some days I literally can't run a game for more than 5 seconds before it shuts down.

Anyone think what else it might be? Maybe I'm putting too much thought into the OCCT test thing. Can someone run it and see if they get the same pattern I get? High initial FPS, sudden dip, it recovers to 80%-ish of what it was initially but is wildly inconsistent. then.

Got a bit of a problem here.
My laptop's hard drive isn't showing up when I try to install any operating systems.
I had a semi-working install of Arch but I couldn't access wifi-menu because I'd forgotten to download an essential package in the initial setup. Figured I'd just reinstall the OS since it would be less effort than fucking around and setting up a mobile hotspot on my phone for a wired connection, but when I restarted the PC and booted into my USB for Arch's setup, I couldn't find the SSD. It's disappeared. What's weird to me is that I could still unplug the USB and boot into the broken Arch installation.
Willing to install Gentoo to fix the problem.

I think Fallout 4 is bigger than that. Also your graphics card is quite weak, but yes, this is a pretty failsafe rig unless something new is released.
>>
>>60635361
I'd probably use the SSD for the OS and critical documents only. Everything else, especially game and user data, would be stored on the hard drive.
I'm not all that concerned about new releases in the game market, I just want to make sure my rig is able to handle most games that are currently out, and I'm using Fallout 4 as a benchmark for that purpose.

For a video games, where file sizes don't really matter and the end user doesnt give a fuck , you'll be ok , but for any use where size is important or where the programs becomes complex enough, that's pants on head retarded , since if something goes wrong you'll be looking through layers and layers of problems

Also, I recently had a bad experience with an HDD in my old laptop that failed after only a year and a half of use, was that just a defective product or a stroke of bad luck? For this new rig I'm trying to set up, the hard drive's lifespan is an equally important consideration alongside gaming performance.

Can anyone point to me a good guide on doing automated backups with encryption? Ideally i would like something like rsync so my script will only update changed/new data, and encrypt on the fly using a public key. although i think thats kinda impossible since encryption changes so much of the data theres no way to tell whats been changed by the user in already existing files. my other option is an encrypted backup partition, which will work but i dont want the partition mounted when the script isnt running(currently my script mounts and unmounts the drive when it starts/finishes), this means i have to the password/key in/accessible by the script which im not crazy about. Any ideas?

The only game I play online is Rocket League on XB1S. But most of the time I play, every minute or so it will give the disconnect symbol on and off for about 15-20 seconds and everything is jumping all over the place from the issue.

Is there a good internet test I can do that goes for about 5-10 mins and will tell me if it's something with my ISP/modem? I have a suspicion it may be my Xbox. Or is there some other way to find out short of buying a new game?

Tks
>>
>>60636193
ping google when you you are playing, see if the response time increases or stops when you see problems on the xbox. if you see problems with the ping, then likely its the internet connection, whether thats the modem or your ISP youd have to do more digging but at least it would rule out the xbox

Recently I bought some CAT6 to run to my desktop so I could stop having to use painfully slow wifi.

I tested the cable when it arrived and everything worked perfectly but after running it I just can't seem to get it to work. I had to cut the connectors off to fit them through the holes I drilled to run the cable and crimped them afterwards. I think at first I fucked up the wire order but after redoing it stuff has gotten really weird. I am able to ping my router when I statically add an in-range IP but sometimes speeds are crazy slow or dropped packets, and sometimes it pings as it normally should. Despite this I can't access the router setup page let alone the internet. If I leave it to dynamic I don't hit the network at all. Plugging the cable into an old laptop it doesn't even show up (possibly because it's CAT6).

I'm really at a loss, the cable shouldn't be damaged and I've quadruple checked my crimps at this point.

no open a command prompt and rung the ping command
 ping -t google.com

the -t will make it so that it continuously pings instead of stopping after just 4 packets. watch the reply time, if it goes very high when you experience problems on your xbox its likely the internet connection.

>>60638109
No, im using a mechanical drive for the guest but the host is on an SSD thats nearly full.
>>
>>60637455
Its a BSOD indeed but it doesnt say what is going on.

Try a Linux USB before reinstalling Windows.

>>
>>60638121
You have no business fucking with the calling convention like that. The C runtime expects main() to be using the appropriate calling convention.
>cdecl
64-bit Linux (and most unixes) use the SystemV amd64 ABI.
>void main
This is incorrect. int main() is the correct prototype.

I found the error it was error "0x0000007B (0xFFFFF880009A97E8 0xFFFFFFFFC0000034 0x0000000000 0x0000000000)." Not much help unfortunately.

I am about to wipe the HDD, does anyone know if there is a way to transfer all the data from one HDD to an external without access to windows? (Long shot but worth it)
>>
>>60638204
A Linux USB, it will let you use Linux without the need of install it and move files around the HDD.
>>
>>60638204
7B means it wasn't able to mount C: ("INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DRIVE")
i've seen it plenty of times
have you recently changed disk/controller/motherboard? changed BIOS settings? removed drivers?

Crossposting.

On two occasions now it has black screened under load, then you turn it off and on again and it doesn't even show the motherboard splash screen or anything. Strangely, it is getting into Windows, because I can hear the startup sounds and can hear it log in when I type my password. On both occasions it was 'fixed' by simply removing the GPU from the system, turning the system on, turning it off, then reinstalling the GPU, then it works again.

So GPU or PSU? Maybe both?

>Its a completely new build, except I kept the hard drives from my old computer.
You reinstalled windows when you put it in your new computer right? because if you didnt, you have to.

>Where do I get one of those?
Make one.

Download Rufus.
Download Linux Mint Cinnamon ISO.
Use rufus to make your USB bootable.
Boot into it.
>>
>>60638253
>Its a completely new build, except I kept the hard drives from my old computer.
as in this is a fresh install or windows, or you're trying to boot the old windows?

if it's the former, set your BIOS to use IDE/legacy disk access, then install the drivers for your sata controller
if it's the latter, put the disk back into the old machine and run "sysprep /generalize", THEN put it in the new machine
>>
>>60638266
ffs, no I didn't. I thought I'd just swap the HDDs thinking it would work.

>>60638267
No I just swapped the HDDs thinking it would work.
>>
>>60638281
you needed to run sysprep /generalize beforehand
windows isn't smart enough to detect new hardware without being explicitly told to do so
>>
>>60638281
The easy one is just install windows, you have the option to keep your files.
Or return it to the original PC and do sysrep.

Go for the first one, its a new build anyway, start from scratch.
>>
>>60638298
Damn.
>>60638305
OK so if I re-install windows I can still keep my files like, not lose my porn stash?
>>
>>60638321
If you want to, yes.
>>
>>60638326
Will this affect my second hard drive?

Windows was installed on a shitty 500gb hdd, however I have a 2TB hdd that I swapped over without doing sysprep. Will that one be affected?
>>
>>60638321
keep in mind you can run sysprep on the new hardware, IF you can get into windows
try settings your BIOS to use IDE instead of AHCI, that's usually a workaround for 7B
boot into safe mode if you can, then run sysprep /generalize

if you can get this far, install your AHCI/SATA drivers, then re-enable it in the BIOS
then you're good to go
>>
>>60638357
If you are going to install windows on the 500GB HDD only, then the 2TB wont be affected, you can disconnect it if it worries you tho.
>>
>>60638371
I think I will go for a fresh install as I need to install win7 onto my SSD anyway.
>>60638385
If I start to reinstall windows on my SSD moving it from my 500gb HDD, will I be able to have access to my files still? (I am probs gonna re-install windows in a few secs, just haven't done stuff like this before much, first build)

>>60638412
if you want to install windows onto a new disk, then just have ONLY that disk plugged in during install
no room for error is best room for error.
>>
>>60638412
Windows installer only will touch the drive you tell it to install windows, if it detects a windows install it wont touch any files.
If your SSD is empty it will install windows only in the SSD.

To make you feel safer.
Only connect the drive where you will install windows, in this case, only your new SSD and not your 500GB and 2TB HDDs.

ISP routing to Japan guy here. I found out that ATT, Verizon, and sprint has access to the internet lines that run straight to Japan but its not on my island. The cable is on a line that connects a few islands down. Using my ATT internet it routes to LA first then back to Japan which is unnecessary. You guys said its impossible to choose the route it takes right? Just double checking considering technically I could have access to this line considering my ISP uses it. Its just the route it takes to ping to Japan is unnecessary and if I could just point it straight to the island below me straight to Japan I could shave off 100ms ping easily.

>>60638441
windows also has a tendency to place boot partitions/files into disks on a lower port number than the one you selected
like, if you pick a disk on sata1, but there's unallocated space on a disk on sata0, it might just make one or two partitions on the disk on sata0 by itself, which really complicates things if you need to change/remove the disk on sata0
>>
>>60638468
-- what i personally like to do, is install windows through a VM, with a real disk attached
i also pre-make a single, whole-disk ntfs partition to install to
this forces windows to put everything into that one partition, which is much easier to work with if i need to move it around later on

I searched a bit more and it seems the solution might be a simple one, I created and attached a fixed size disk to the current VM I want to shrink. It shows on windows correctly. What im planning to do is boot from an ISO that allows me to clone the first vdi to the second one, all inside the VM. But its been years since I last cloned a drive so can anyone recommend a good and simple iso tool to clone hard drives?

noscript is breaking random image urls for me, how can I fix this?
for example, clicking on an image will load it just fine
ie: https://i.4cdn.org/g/1496039295361.png

but this image my friend linked on teamspeak isn't loading at all: https://i.4cdn.org/tv/1496026050035.gif

I have no fucking clue how to fix it, all I know is that it's noscript's fault

I don't want to disable noscript because that shit is too nice to have

Yes, uBlock not only hide stuff but also blocks it from starting, it works pretty much as a host list and an adblocker.

uMatrix is a upgrade to noscript but if you dont want to its fine.

it wasn't noscript but rather this one greasemonkey script I was using called "AdsBypasser" I looked on github and it's an issue with other people so I just disabled it for now

Question: I have an 8350 and when I overclock to 4.3Ghz I gain FPS on games, but the moment I overclock to 4.4Ghz my FPS goes to as if I was underclocked to 3GHz. It hits 63C at 4.4Ghz so I have no idea what's going on. Is my voltage too low? Cooling inadequate?

Recently I started playing HOTS to pass time since I got home from a vacation of 5 weeks. I was playing only one hero the entire time. After playing, I went onto youtube and I looked at my recommended videos and one of the videos was a "how to build x character" for HOTS and it was the hero I played as. Can the BATTLE.net client report such information?
>>
>>60638944
did you look up the character on icyveins/hotslogs? or have you only played hots without ever searching anything related to it?

Is there any way to block pop-ups that bring up notifications or try and make you add extensions?

Right now I'm using uBlock origin and the Anti-adblock script for Tampermonkey.

Noscript on firefox is infinitely superior to scriptsafe and I haven't touched it for a while on chrome. I'd stay on firefox but I have a few other issues on ff that keep me on Chrome.

Laptops are infamous for heat issues

>They're really compact
>Some skimp on or have bad heat dissipation design
>People leave them on their beds blocking exhausts and make a personal sauna for it
>Thermal paste is super inconvenient to re-apply

50c idle and 80c on load is definitely too hot and would make your CPU throttle itself down for sure.

Most laptops I've opened up when I fixed computers as a part-time job have the issue where thermal paste is seeping out the sides and isn't on the CPU heatplate. It's just a hassle to disassemble some laptops just to do it.
>>
>>60639185

If you OC'd an old laptop it might be sharing a heatsink with two heatpipes for each unit like in my pic.

It's completely normal for GPUs to run hotter than the CPU and they're designed that way, but the already hot GPU can't get rid of heat because the CPU is making the heatsink hot as hell.

At least that's what I think

Reviving from page 8.

I tried googling this, but its damn hard when I dont really know what to search for.

I have two windows 10 computers who in the past couple of days have shown some strange behavior. At totally random times a blank windows appears and disappears in less than a second at total random times. What is most annoying is that if I am playing a game, the flashing windows has priority so any full screen program is minimized.

Both computers are on a different network, they did not have any new applications or drivers installed before they started showing the flashing window. My guess is a windows update doing some strange things, because that is the only thing that has been installed in the meantime.

I want to ftp into a server to copy some files but I can't seem to see all the directories.

With putty everything works but with ftp I'm locked to certain directories? Using windows to access a linux based server.

directory I want to access:
/share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/

In ftp /share is hidden.

I'm using WINSCP ftp client. I can enable hidden files but not folders?
