There is no great cloud storage that isn't self hosted to be honest but there are some decent ways of improving what you get with cloud storage providers

In my case this is my setup
>3x unlimited somewhat shady google drive accounts for $2 each, all from different sellers
>fuse mounted hot google drive with encfs
>use a google vps to clone and transfer encrypted files from one google drive to another

works great and I have multiple backups. Haven't had any accounts get deleted or anything but I know it'll happen eventually. That's why I use a google vps to mirror content, you get god tier speeds from google's own data centres. Yes google vps prices are normally a cuck but spinning one up to transfer is quick, data transfer rates are a cuck but since you're not doing egress data and it's all internal to google's datacenters it doesn't cost you. Sure it uses some system resources while syncing the drives across but it's a negligible amount and therefore cost.
>>
I need a cloud provider for hosting files that I don't have space for, as I'm too poor to buy a new hard drive and don't want to delete my files.
I'm currently using MEGA but I want a backup, as I'm worried it might close at any moment.

What can I use that won't ban me or delete my stuff (all encrypted obviously), and that's likely to remain in business for a while?
>>
>>60623894
Google's has an unlimited grace period.

MS official grace period is something like a month, unofficially 1 year.

Pros: oftentimes free.
Cons: sign in, emails, le botnet, requires internet connectivity
>extra physical storage
Pros: more private, costs may be lower for larger amounts of storage, no account, no spam
Cons: comparatively large (though one-time) purchase cost, if you lose it you're fucked, if it falls in he hands of another person you're fucked, if it is not encrypted tn you risk being fucked
>>

I can't afford paid plans, so I'm only looking at free accounts (don't mind making many of them as long as they don't ban me for it).

It was years ago, I was just walking along, minding my business while on my way home from work. Suddenly, a dark, nondescript van with "free beer" scrawled on the side slowly creeps up from behind me. The window rolls down and staring at me is a young blue-haired girl with pigtails, maybe about 9 years old, eyeing me up suspiciously. She calls out in a slightly hushed voice:
-"Hey... Hey buddy. You want some classic rock cd's? I've got a ton in the back."
I was told never to speak to little girls I didn't know, but the offer was so enticing I foolishly replied
"R-really? D-do you have The Beatles? O-or maybe Bob Seger?"
She chuckled darkly, "Oh yeah, I've got everything. The Who, Floyd, Tom Petty, you name it. But you'll have to hop in the back here if you want me to give them to you."
I knew I should have ran, but part of me was too scared of what she might do if I said no, as I walked to the back I could swear I saw her licking her lips out of the corner of my eye.
As I reached for the handle the doors suddenly flung open and about five lolis reached out and grabbed me.
I screamed as loud as I could, but one of them gagged me with her panties and they pulled me in with their mighty loli strength.
They pinned me down, as I struggled I heard one of them say "Sit on the bitch's face, Sanae. Shut him the fuck up".
Suddenly my vision was then completely obscured and my screams muffled by pink softness, with what looked like a cartoon bear's face on the back.
As tears rolled down my cheeks they laughed at my pointless struggle. It was at that point I realized there really was no rock.

You guys act like you are trying to store petabytes worth of nuclear launch codes.

Get a NAS to store your porn and pirated music and backups, encrypt the stuff you really cannot afford to lose (we are talking about <100gb for most people) and upload it to some cloud service as well.

If the cloud provider shuts down you still have your NAS, if your house burns down you still have the important stuff in the cloud.
>>
>>60620771
Mega is the only tolerable one, but it still isn't perfect.
>>
>>60627328
Not an issue if they're encrypted
>>
Google Drive is the best. Platform agnostic, good mobile apps, good featureset, good webUI, reasonable pricing, reasonable speeds.

>>60620774

Uh huh. And how much does that cost per month?

>>60620784

This is a good backup solution, but it doesn't take the place of having quality cloud storage. I do both, personally, as well as having a local NAS.

>I need access to my anime from my PHONE because I'm gonna watch anime on my PHONE
>>
>>60627996

I like to have access to my 200GB archive of digital comics on my iPad. I also like to have my FLAC archived to cloud, so that I can see what I have, organize it remotely, sync it down if need be, and ultimately keep it away from dying hard drives (also, Drive handles FLAC natively! Try it!).

And it's also pretty cool to be able to perform quick edits/prints of documents from any of my mobile devices just as well as I would on a """real""" computer. I even get to pick back up right where I left off on said """real""" computer, even if the last edit I made was eight seconds ago.

Plus, I use Notability for all my note-taking needs because fuck paper. With cloud storage, notes I take on my iPad show up on my phone and desktop computer about a minute after I take them. And, even in the event of all of those devices failing at once (say my house burns down with all of those things inside), there's still copies of everything on Google Drive. All I have to do is get a new device, sign in, and hey, there it is, it's like god damn magic.

tl;dr Cloud storage is awesome for people who actually do things with their lives. Not everyone is a no-life hermit like yourself.

50GB is nothing
Don't rely on cloud services.
Many big and respectable firms just trashed lots of users or shut down completely in a few weeks or even sooner.
Weiyun- changed from 10TB to 10GB and deleted the data.
360 yunpan- from 36TB to 10GB and deleted the data.
Former Megaupload, vanished in days.
Hive.im vanished
Adrive pulled the free storage and deleted the data.
Many huge filesharing sites like rapidshare gone in weeks or few months, with the data.

On 10 February 2015, RapidShare announced on its home page that it would shut down its services permanently on 31 March 2015. After that date none of the data it hosted would be available, even to the customers who uploaded it.[9][10] On 31 March 2015, the site home page displayed a notice about the service's closing.

It's only a placebo if you're listening to it and thinking it makes a difference. If you're archiving to it, to be used for transcoding to other formats in the distant future, it's essential. And that's exactly what I'm doing.

FLAC is an archival format. I am an archivist. You are an idiot.

Just werkz and I have 400GB free for. Few years.

I've reused the same 100GB promotion for my most used accounts, linked them and have different data stored among specific hardware.

Photos, keep and Drive make a nice set for someone constantly upgrading or switching hardware.

Using one thing does not exclude everything else.
Owncloud for automatic backups.
Rsync for deliberate syncing
Sftp for publishing
Git for code versioning.
>>
>>60638606
does rsync not do automatic backup?
>>
>>60627183
The risk exists, but I still think that physical storage has its uses.
>>
>>60641024
It's much more likely to lose access to your files on a third party cloud service than to lose them on physical drives if you have backups (or even just mirrored RAID drives).

Remember that there's always the possibility that they could ban you, they mistakenly delete them for copyright violation, they can chance their terms and condition, and they can close for a number of reasons.

The smart way to do it is to use local physical drives as your main storage, and the cloud as backup, but if you absolutely have to choose between one or the other, then physical storage is far superior to cloud services in most cases.
