i unironically liked material design. i have an extension for chrome called Ink that makes google sites that aren't very well designed, much closer to material design guidelines (gmail being a major one)

i think maybe they used the "feed of cards" thing too often for apps that didn't need it but still it's a shame it's going away right when they'd finally got everything looking consistent and unique.

The new paradigm is semiflat design, with 3D perspective, colourful gradients, etc etc.

Kinda like Microsoft's fluent design but more diverse, in terms of fonts and so on.

If you want to see what's next in design, look at the latest trends in web sites. Desktop and mobile apps and OSes have been playing catching up with the web during the last 5 years or more.
