You're actually using 25.17 MB of RAM so I guess YOU should be getting the fuck out :^)

Is Gentoo more "hardened" in terms of security in comparison with other Distributions? What about Windows/MacOS? I understand it's an extremely minimal distro, you have to compile the kernel, you generally compile your own applications for speed, etc... I'm just wondering what if Gentoo is perhaps more invulnerable to getting pwned or exploited. Thanks.

It could be if you make it so. Enable kASLR, PaX via grsec (unsure about the status of grsec at the moment though), use strong stack protectors, strong BPF filtering, RBAC, TPE and use havenged to generate more entropy along with updated SELinux definitions.

On the other hand you can strip every feature from the kernel and deploy it on a smartwatch.

Try a different window manager like swm by dcat. That might squeeze out another mb.

Pretty easy to configure overall, but most grsec patches are pretty old due to disputes between "open" software devs whom are out to plagarize and the pissy maintainer of grsec.

The latest grsec patchset is 4.9 until spengler releases the patchsets to the public again or someone gathers the resources to work on the old patchsets. Configuring is pretty easy overall, there's an auto-configuration option for newbies. All the options and some caveats for RBAC and PaX can be found on this site:

>>
>>60602478
Gentoo has two options for every package: a stable version and the newest. The kernel is always configured and compiled by hands on Gentoo.

>>60602505
It can be done in background

>>60604635
What's wrong with it? It doesn't run newest gaymes, innit?

>>
>>60605360
I used gentoo for 3 years.

The problem with gentoo is that there's no way the maintainers can possibly test every combination of use flags, package versions, etc., so if you actually make use of the "power" of gentoo/portage, you end up with a shitty, unstable system. And if you don't make use of this "power", then why use gentoo in the first place?

It can be a pretty OK distro if you have a lot of time and enjoy tinkering with your system. If you want a usable system, better to sacrifice a few kb in your binaries and use something like debian.

They don't need to test every possible combination because that's not how it works. Just open up some .ebuilds and see what kind of dependencies can be defined in them

I've got over 1k packages and a large package.use and I don't have that problem. Maybe you had a problem with system-wide ~amd64.
