/g/, I found this mint Asus PDA running PocketPC 2003. Is there anything fun I can do with it aside from installing gentoo?
I was thinking of using it as a pocket terminal since it's got a CF to serial port adapter in it, but the battery doesn't hold charge ;_;

If the battery is dead there's probably not much you can do. Most of the batteries for those things would be either super expensive or DOA. Probably could hack one from a phone battery depending on the technology used inthe battery.

well, the battery is stuck to the back with some really evil glue, and has a shit ton of wires going to it, so there's likely some custom controller in it there and I don't think I can nigger-rig something using phone or RC vehicle batteries.
though apparently this exists

I had the same one...

Winmo makes for a fucking fantastic PIM device
With wireless networking you can have a dedicated email checker and SSH terminal
Can work for emulation
Other than that there are tons of software compilations you can pirate and freeware as well
Shit actually felt like a pocket computer and there's a decent application base, the difficulty is just getting one that works well, I've got an iPAQ 910 I'm going to order a battery for and use for most of the above since my shitberries are useless without a data plan.

Couldn't you do the same stuff with an Android phone or are you wanting to have a device that isn't networked?

Sure? He asked what he can do with it, there's plenty you can do with it. Plus I find the experience on these kinds of platforms far better than Android or iOS for a few tasks.

That was my bad, I didn't mean to tag OP.
Need to check before I hit post.

The only networking this one has is an IR port. I could get a CF-WiFi card from ebay, but it still won't support WPA.
