Today on Debian Jessie stable I ran apt-get dist-upgrade and recieved updates for the smb libraries, and now I'm reading this thread about the flaw, I didn't even know about it.
Well, at least most people will be unaffected unless they manually install samba (on most distros). Most desktop users probably have ports blocked (or cucked) by ISP anyway ,so both linux and windows are safe in this instance.
Feels bad for the servers though.
>>60581428
I forgot Lunix fanboys are too stupid to use Google.
Welp if you are too stupid to realize the kind of shit code you run, is not surprise.
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Windows,
is in fact, GNU/Windows, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus
Windows. Windows is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another
free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the Windows
Subsystem for Linux, GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components
comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day,
without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU
which is widely used today is often called "Windows", and many of its users are
not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
>>60581549
>I forgot Lunix fanboys are too stupid to use Google.
It isn't true. The average IQ of Linux users is higher, Google the statistics.

Oh look, they already fixed it. And I'm already protected. Before anyone could go out and make some ransomware to affect the estimated 90 million Linux users around the world.

The ratio of Linux users to Windows does not equal more secure.
Macfags used to brag the same before the post-2000 Apple boom and now viruses and trojans are much more commonplace on their systems than they were 10 years ago.

The problem is that Windows users don't update their systems until they're forced to. The reason: they can't apply security updates without a machine restart.

Eh, restart tier updates have become rarer post creators update.
Also, the fix update didn't need it.
>>60581568
I'd just like to infect for a moment. What you're referring to as Windows, is in fact, Wannacry/Windows, or as I've recently taken to calling it, MY plus Bitch. Windows is no longer an operating system unto itself, but rather another nonfree component of a fully dysfunctional Wannacry system made useless by my fat ass.
Many computer users run a modified version of the Wannacry system every day, without even realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of Wannacry which is widely used today is often called "!#$%^@$#^&$#@^*", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the beginning of the end.

Samba is one of the most popular pieces of software used in Linux, because you can set it up as a domain controller for win clients without paying for a server license. Linux is pretty fucked if the NSA has a giant catalogue of decade old bugs in major programs they can exploit whenever they feel like it.
>>60581091
>Linux

>>60582348
i know you just use arch because you're poor and it feeds your unwarranted superiority complex on the internet, but most people don't just shitpost and jack off to chinese cartoons when using Linux.

People only use samba if they need to have windows boxes on the same network. And if you're gonna have windows boxes on the network anyway, one extra security bug isn't really gonna make a significant difference.
Either way, you and your fellow wintoddlers don't seem to understand that this isn''t a linux problem at all, it's a samba problem. So.. yeah. Stay mad I guess.

>>60582629
True that, if you're not using YaCy as your search engine then you might as well go back to Windows.
>>60581677
Nice strawman but i'm gonna bite: do you seriously believe that the linux platform is not a juicy target considering it's popularity on servers and other areas? Even if screwing an ignorant individual is easier any server contains the data of thousands of users in the worst case so practically all windows users are using linux indirectly and even more: they're trusting their data to those linux machines.
