Does the subtitle hack affect mpv? I haven't seen wm4 do any commits about it, or Plex for that matter.

There is no "subtitle hack".
Some guy found 3 bugs in 3 players, each of them different (but related to their subtitle handling). E.g. the one in Kodi was that it displayed subs using a browser essentially (html + css) which was bugged and could lead to code execution. The on in VLC consisted of simple overflow, however, they could not have lead to code execution as various users pointed out on HN.
It's not like you could forge one bad subtitle file and exploit all of these players with it. Those were all different problems.

So far, mpv is not effected/does not have such a bug (with potential for code execution due to forged subs).
