i prefer the way the keyboard on my black macbook feels. the trackpads and case build is better with the aluminum ones though. resting my hand on my black macbook triggers the trackpad now, so i have to disable it and use an external mouse.

Yes, but saying "i7" by itself doesn't provide that information. A laptop i7 could be a 4.5W dual-core or a 45W quad-core, but you would need to specify what you're referring to (7Y75 or 7920HQ in that case), and the i# part of the name is useless.

I think you're both right, it's definitely a stupid naming system because as far as individual components go it tells you nothing about the processor and there's massive amounts of overlap in terms of power between different models. But for the purposes of laptops or all-in-ones where there's a limited choice available it's a helpful way of distinguishing different price points.
