Nah, it was just a normal online deal.

They actually run online deals all the time.

Protip: if there's a REALLY GOOD deal that you super want, but are already an Optus customer, swap to Vodafone, three days in, call them and say you're not happy with their service, and then swap back to Optus. You're able to keep your number, and get the 'New customer' deal.

http://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobile/phones/sim-only

At the moment you can go to $40/month for 12GB of data, regardless of if you're a new customer or not.

I have a severely bugged plan from one of the major providers in the USA. It was originally an employee discounted plan plus government discount plan but somewhere along the lines it got bugged up in their system and I've been paying $33/mo for unlimited everything including tethering. The company even spent almost 2 years trying to fix it in their systems but couldn't, and for some reason they couldn't even move me to a different account without some kind of "major headache" happening. I tried to follow-up with them and was told to expect calls back but never did so I just kept paying. The plan as it is should be around $200.

The downsides, I'm not able to log in to check my account, I can never pay online but I can pay by check or at a kiosk in the store with cash so I have my bank send them a check automatically every month. I can't go paperless, I can't finance a phone, and getting my SIM card replaced when needed is possible, but a huge nightmare.

I do get billed for international calls and when traveling, but I never get billed for international data, my phone just eventually stops being able to access data after 8-10gb but if I turn it off or go into airplane mode for about an hour, it suddenly works again.

That would not be profittable in my country because all ISPs are now requred to store your internet activity, and that costs a lot of money, because of that all of the plans have been nerfed recently, good thing they can't force you to switch from the your old one.

22Gb at "full speed", deprioritization afterward. But I will say, that on Cricket, you're already depriorotized on AT&T's network (LTE capped at 8mb download) and none of this nonsense has effected me in a way I would notice.

I regularly use my phone as a hotspot because it's faster than my home DSL in rural Ohio. I've racked up almost 200Gb this month and Cricket either doesn't notice or doesn't care.
