Hello. I have a specific question, about 2 weeks ago I spilled beer over my gpu, and I was already half vodka bottle down, so I was too pissed drunk to even try and do anything until the next day.

Anyway pc works fine with the gpu taken out, so basically, I wanna know if there is a way to save the gpu by cleaning the gunk off of it or something more effective...

>tldr; Can you ressurect a beer-covered gpu

It's fucked, trash it you drunken inbred.

its rather simple, first go fill a bathtub with water drop the GPU in it then wait 10 minutes, after that take it outside and let it dry for about 1-2 days
>>
>>60545253
Use a vacuum with the bristle attachment to scrape it off. It's very safe, IT professionals do this all the time
>>
No it's dead you idiot.
It's not dysfunctional because it's dirty, it's dysfunctional because the liquid caused high voltages to go to places in the card where they shouldn't and completely fry the thing.
>>
>>60545253
You're going to have to take the shroud and cooler off and douse the thing in rubbing alcohol and try to carefully wipe it with a qtip or something. Gonna have to get all or most of the residue off. Even then, it may not work. Chances are better if it was powered off when you spilled. If it was on, it's likely dead.
>>
>>60545253
Looks like a GTX 670 or something, if this were true and if i were you then i'd just get a RX 470 as a nice replacement.
>>
It was on. Oh well, was a gtx 670, so not a huge loss at this point.

its not dead you rudeposter
>>
>>60545303
Ill look into it, thanks for the suggestion!
>>
>>60545314
Yeah, kind of sucks that it's fucked, I still caught 50 bucks for mine when I replaced it with a 470.

It's a really nice card, replaced my Mobo + Ram + CPU too a while back as everything was near 7 years old.

I'd say the 470 performs about twice as good as the 670. I even got the card on sale for 175 Euros, luckyyy.
>>
>>60545352
I felt kind of misguided by everyone for getting Nvidia back then, just as I got the 670 the so-called good driver support started to plummet and it was expensive as fuck too because the 660Ti was gimped just like the 970'".

Never had issues with my cheap ass 5670 card back then ( even though it was weak as hell ).

Clean with denatured alcohol and hope for the best. Do not use any water-based cleaning agents at any point.
>>
>>60545451
Ill give it a go. Got nothing to lose at this point.
>>
>>60545253
How do you go on /g/ and not watch Louis Rossman. Just clean it off with alcohol
>>
>>60545286
>HIGH VOLTAGES
>IN A GPU
you would need to take all caps out and wire them in parallel, and i doubt you would get anywhere near 1,5kV DC
>>

Rubbing alcohol fine?
>>
dip whole gpu on contact cleaner, pull out and dry it, good luck man
>>
>>60545253
Buy a 5L distilled water and same for Alcohol or ethanol and a few thermal pads for the VRAM and Thermal paste.
>Disassemble the card
>Remove thermal pads and clean thermal paste with alcohol.
>Submerge everything into the distilled water first and leave it to soak for a day.
>After that Submerge everything on Alcohol for a couple of hours to displace all the distilled water.
>Then remove the cards from the alchool and put them to dry for a couple of hours in a place where it doesn't get direct sunlight or isn't dry and/or Dusty.
>Reassemble
And hope for the best.
>>
>>60545253
i would use denatured alcohol as well, worked fine on friends phone (it was drowned in a shower cleaner, most retarded thing i've ever seen). Still it wasnt water, but it didnt turn on after the drown.
>>
>>60545615
Ill actually give this a go. Just gotta figure out how to disassemble it first.
>>
>>60545253
Just buy a new one.
>>
>>60545680
Google "[GPU NAME] disassembly".
>>
>>60545615
>Submerge everything into the distilled water first and leave it to soak for a day.
This seems more likely to damage things further than to fix them. I would only try this after alcohol-only did not work.
>>
Pressure wash it!

I had a similar issue once (spilled beer on my speakers - pressure washing it at my local carwash and laying it out in the sun for drying it worked flawlessly)

That's for wimps. Sandblast it!
>>
>>60545584
Doesn't change the fact that something got shorted out and the card is now dead.
>>
>>60546117
Distilled water displaces the bear and since distilled water doesn't contains less contaminants that usually stick to the motherboard when drying it's safer.
You use the Alcohol to displace the water, and if it's done properly no damage will occur.
>>
>>60545253
More than likely, the acidity of the beer ate your traces. It's ded.
>>
>>60545314
>It was on.
You should be glad it didn't take the rest of the computer with it.
>>
>>60545253
yeah I too like to take my GPU on weekend trips to pubs etc
>>
How do you get beer directly on the gpu and nothing else?
>>
>>60547735
This.

How the hell do you spill a drink INSIDE your case?
