Nintendo won with the 3DS but they're not selling as much anymore. The switch is a hybrid because nintendo does not want to lose more money with a portable console that will compete with a device literally everyone in the western world has or wants to have (smartphones).

There is no Vita 2, there is no more handhelds. Nintendo is hanging on with the 3ds because of it's giant install base. but there will be no replacement when the *new* 3ds is eol.
