Hey /g/!

I just found a 10-year-old Eizo monitor used for about €50. It has a 1600x1200 resolution and an IPS-panel.

Are old professional monitors bad just because they're old? Would it be a good buy?

Also; old professional stuff general

They're bigger heavier and take more power, but they look fine.
>>
They're great, just not for gaming. Power concerns are mostly irrelevant, those aren't CRTs anyway.
>>

You can buy new monitors with higher resolution for 50$. So what is the point?
Technology moved that what old monitors could do in "professional" enviroment, new monitors do as standard.
>>
>>60531067
they're great. pick them up for a good price!
>>
Power and weight is not an issue.

I study design, so accurate colour and contrast is more important than resolution or latency.

Yes, but your post neglects things like color accuracy, response times, refresh rates, etc, etc.

Yeah, you can get a cheap 1080p monitor no problem, but what about the numerous other aspects that come into play?

>>60531067

Your post is vague, what are you looking to do with your monitor? Are you talking about gaming? every day use? photo editing? What?

For everyday use? Yeah, it'd be fine. The resolution is a little wonky since most content coming out today is catered for 16:9-esque resolutions, but you can manage.

Gaming? The only things that really 'matter' are refresh rate and response time. A high response time means you're not seeing actions on your screen until X ms until they've actually happened. For the most part, professional monitors aren't geared with this in mind, so it probably won't be that good.

what? there is such a thing out there? I'd like to get one for photo editing and design work. do i still need to calibrate them myself?
>>
>>60531597

But new cheap monitors look like complete garbage?

I want decent colour reproduction and black-levels for design work.

I also write a lot, which (for me) 4:3 aspect ratio is better than 16:9

Cheap modern LG panels have same accuracy of color as OP related with money back guarantee if you find they do not. Run 80hz overclocked 75 with freesync and 60 without freesync. 3ms gay-to-gay

I mean to buy 10years old monitor is asking for issues. It would be more worth-wille to add 50$ and buy higher quality modern ips and get 3years+ warranty.

No they don't...

Most of the cheap LG panels aren't even 8bit.
people get memed into buying 6bit eIPS all the time.

Dell S-PVA 27" are like $200-$300 on eBay. Accept just about any input imaginable from rf/component old game consoles to HDMI/10bit display port.
Has picture in picture and USB hub with all kinds of SD card slots.

Almost 0 light bleed too

what are some high resolution crt monitors that aren't too big/heavy to fit on a medium sized desk?
