Debrox drops, water. There are wax vaccummes, but I dunno if they work. Doctors also use these plastic cleaners. Theyre a plastic stick with a loop on the end that are a god send for cleaning, but be careful doing it on your own. Qtips just push the wax in further and can lead to blockages.

I've had to learn proper cleaning techniques because I have a narrow, very curved ear canal. If I don't clean for a while or improperly I go partially deaf from the blockages.

actually you shouldn't clean the inner part of your ear at all. just cleaning the outside is enough. the doctor gave me this advice after my left ear was blocked by earwax. since i stopped using q-tips everything is fine. i bought a special syringe with a soft tip to clean them just in case but never had to use it.

I'm speaking as someone who has had many ear infections and often got impacted wax. If you don't stick anything in your ear, there are few if any problems. Last time I had my ears plug up was from trying to use earbuds, which probably are just a poorly designed thing in themselves. The kind with the little cup rubber on the end that's supposed to actually go in your ear is pretty terrible. I do not recommend. But yeah, I just used a little water syringe I have in my medicine cabinet. Gets all the wax out no problem.

About shoving them in your ears, I do it just as far a a pair of in-ear headphones would go. Still, if you end up with that cotton tip stuck, you may use one of those ear cleaning sprais. Seriously, they're pretty susceptible for that tip to fall, I know this while using them to apply nailpolish, sometimes it feels like it was barely held in place and fall with no force at all.
