100% hero and it absolutely baffles my mind that the public can sit around at let our government go after him. It's like a real life version of the beginning of the Incredibles where the people start suing the heroes who save them.

He's a traitor in the most literal sense, but his treason was absolutely and unequivocally justified. Snowden is a hero, and his persecution is criminal.

Same with Assange. Hero because traitor.

Don't you people realize that the government is the enemy of the people? Don't you realize that America is "The Empire" and not "The Rebels" like the history books tell us?

>>60528516
Presidents of both parties want to violate your privacy and other rights in the name of national security, because whatever principles they may have (or lack), they're ambitious men who are driven by thirst for power and control over others. If they weren't, they wouldn't run for political office at all, especially not the presidency.

And of course democrats will make every excuse for abuses committed by a democratic president, and republicans will make every excuse for abuses committed by a republican president. Because all the congressmen and party hacks and the like are *also* ambitious people whose first goal is power, control, and the ability to rule over others, so they don't really care about your rights any more than a president does. They just care about their team winning. Elections are a game, where if you play it better than the other guy, you win and get more power.

Most of the people in the country have a definite slave mentality to them also. They want to not have to run their own lives, they want to be told what to do, they want big daddy government to take care of everything for them.

>>60528641
hah

>>60528665
also hah. He was only a fan of leaks when they were helping him and hurting his opponent. Now that leaks in his administration are causing him difficulties he's raging against leaks.

I hope that a culture of pervasive leaking takes firm root in the executive branch, and that not only Trump but future presidents of both parties will find themselves routinely mired in controversy and unable to act because of leaks. If we can't abolish the executive branch, we can at least make it less effective so that it does less damage.
>>
So let me get this straight, it's illegal to reveal the illegal actions of your government even if they're betraying the constitution themselves? What kind of bullshit logic is that?
>>
>>60528695
>What kind of bullshit logic is that?
That's what the patriot act got you.

>>
>>60528695
if the government is subverting the constitution you swore to uphold I'd say you have not only the right but the duty to betray the government.

Of course they'll find some cause to arrest you regardless, because the last thing a government wants is for its citizens rights to be a constraint on its actions.

CBP is substantially less nice than TSA, they are super serious. No, it doesn't. It means he betrayed his obligations or the trust an something/someone placed in him. He did just that, meaning he his a traitor.

Being a traitor has consequences. Sacrificing himself to those consequences for the greater good is also what makes him a hero.

Ergo, he is both.

He sacrificed for the greater good but it's perfectly legitimate to say that what he did shouldn't have been a sacrifice at all. He shouldn't have a bill coming due. Adhering to oaths isn't an abstract moral good, its something we want in service of other ends. When those other ends (in this case, defense of human rights) demand betraying the organization you swore to serve, breaking the oath is something that should be done without compunction or penalty.

Yeah and I'm saying we ought to change that. To call someone a traitor carries the implication that you're demanding that he be punished, or that he'll be punished regardless but you approve of this.
