My brother had this exact desk in the mid-'00s and the same thing happened. We were all in the kitchen eating dinner or something and heard a crash come from downstairs (hillside house, bedrooms are on the lower floor) and found his setup looking pretty much just like the pic.

The weird thing is he only had a laptop and a few random books and stuff on it, so it wasn't overloaded.
