Hi /g/, what's the best choice for a distro that:
>looks nice (Gnome out of the box is a plus)
>requires minimal tinkering
>mostly just werks
>doesn't sell my dick pics to the Chinese government
It's only for playing around with basic scripting/C programming on my laptop, my actual productivity machine is my desktop. I'm considering Elementary OS which looks okay out of the box but the DE is prett gay as far as custom themes go.
Install TempleOS.

Fuck off memester.
Manjaro

The devs are unprofessional as fuck and the whole distro is aimed at kids who want an edgy Arch distro without learning anything.
Just install Ubuntu, Fedora or Debian.

Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 (And upgrade to 18.04 later.)
Antergos

openSUSE
Fedora

Honestly this. It gives you a base and you can just build shit on top of. Plus you have access to more recent versions of build tools.
Gentoo is the best distro

Also, personal favorite: Xubuntu 17.04, then install plank and add it to startup applications

While this is the patrician choice, it does not have a DE out of the box, although the installation of one its very straight forward with the handbook at hand.

Then grow up and move to OpenBSD.
