https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php/Build_a_PC

CPUs:
>G4560 - budget builds (<$500) unless G4620/i3-7100 is heavily discounted
>R5 1500x - generally all you need for 60fps with power to spare. No i5
>R5 1600 - best value for higher fps gaming & mixed usage; 1600x if you don't want to OC
>i7-7700k - bad value but good; may have heat issues even at stock clocks
>R7/Xeon - compute/Multitask/mixed use

Graphics:
>G4560 iGPU is fine for LoL, dota2, rocket league, etc
>1050Ti at ~$105. Drop settings if not Freesync/Gsync on newer games; RX560 if discounted
>RX570 4GB - 1080p@60+hz, running most maxed; older games at 144+hz
>RX580 8GB - 1440p@60+hz, inject SMAA & drop settings for some games
>1060 - Generally outperformed by the RX 580 and GSync costs more; consider only if AMD is not an option (ie CUDA)
>1070 - 1080p@144hz/1440p@100+hz
>1080 - 1080p@90-144+hz maxed; 1440p at lower hz.
>1080Ti - 1440p@90-144+hz; 4k@60hz in SOME games, more at lower settings
>Freesync2 & Vega soon

General:
>READ PRODUCT REVIEWS to see if that cheap SSD/PSU or whatever is reliable
>Consider larger SSD-only for what you budget SSD+HDD combined. Add HDD later once needed
>NVMe aren't for faster OS boot. They're primarily for productivity as a scratch disk
>Stop fucking confusing any M.2 drive with NVMe. M.2 is a form factor
>Go mATX form factor for cheaper board+case
>1 SR DIMM is slower than 2 DIMMs

Incorrect. This is just muh housefire memes that retards included in the OP.

>RX570 4GB - 1080p@60+hz
>RX580 8GB - 1440p@60+hz
You can't claim that a 15% more powerful card can run 1440p as good as a 15% less powerful card runs 1080p, retard. Extra VRAM doesn't magically make it 1440p approved.

There are [(1440 x 2560) - (1080 x 1920)] / (1080 x 1920) = 77% more pixels in 1440p

1440p starts with the GTX1070. Get over it, fanboy. When Vega drops the situation might change, but not until then.

>1060 - Generally outperformed by the RX 580
Incorrect. They are average out fairly equally. Hardware Unboxed shows a 2% difference. Fuck off, fanboy.

The 7700k heats issue is a meme? Do you think you can just push clocks of a CPU enormously high, call it stock clock and it'll be good to go?
The 7700k has heats issue, even intel acknowledges it. If you don't delid, even a good cooler won't cool it that efficiently.

Why the fuck are you being autistic with numbers?
I could do the same with any claim of the OP because there's always some games that will shit the bed at 1080p even on a fucking RX 470 or even RX 480
People have been doing 1440p fine since the rx 390 & gtx 970 days. The RX 480 is good at it, as long as you drop the retarded settings.

That was a long time ago. In terms of graphics card series, the 970 is equivalent to the 1070. They fill the same role in the lineup. No one would suggest a (3.5) 970 for 1440p at this point, and no one should be suggesting a 480, which is only approximately as powerful as the TWO AND A HALF YEAR OLD GTX970.

Yeah, it was a 1440p card then. It isn't now.

Are you suggesting that the GTX 970 did well at 1440p maxed on the game of it's time and that he GTX 960 was the 1080p card or some other dumb shit?
No, the GTX 970 didn't do 1440p well when maxed, pic related. Wasn't even close.
But if you dropped the retarded settings, then yeah you could easily get a stable 60fps, while still getting an almost identical graphical quality.

>no one should be suggesting a 480, which is only approximately as powerful as the TWO AND A HALF YEAR OLD GTX970.
By that logic, no one should be suggesting the RX 580, because it's literally the same as an RX 480 but with slightly higher clocks. And yet, it outperforms the GTX 1060 in newer games, as seen in here >>60495510

Why? There are plenty of cases that are good looking at $100 and under, you don't need a $150 case for that
With the money saved you could up the CPU to an R5 1600 which will last longer than the 1500x because of the 6 cores
>>
>>60495607
RAM is a little slow and might not work well with the mobo.

PSU is weak. You've really limited your upgrade options to save a few euros.

>>60495617
>By that logic herp derp
You lack logic, but have exceeding stupidity.

No one who spends $250 - $600 on a 1440p monitor is going to buy a $200 gfx card to drop settings and barely get by.

The only reason to recommend a 580 is that it is an AMD card, and the OP is obsessed with Team Red.

Regarding Crysis3: First, it was one of the most graphically demanding games of its time, if not the most. So you've cherrypicked an outlier to try to say that the 970 was weak at 1440p. (And by the way, if the 970 was weak way back then, why the hell would I want to buy a similarly powered card NOW for 1440p? Again, you're a fucking moron.)

Secondly, notice that the 980Ti (the TOP consumer card) would have been the only card to get that sixty FPS. 1440p was an enthusiast resolution, much like 4K today.

Stop recommending the 580 just because Team Red lacks a real 1440p card.

Your argument is that, because a 580 would have been decent for 1440p two or three years ago, before new generation of consoles, before the PS4 Pro, before the 14nm die shrink, before 1440p became more mainstream, I should buy a 580 NOW for 1440p.

You. have. no. argument.

>>>/pol/ for conspiracy theories
>>
>>60496104
Which software will he be using?
Photoshop doesn't benefit much from more core although it does in some case

In any case, that AIO is quite overkill, as high end $80 air coolers perform just as good or very close.
The rest is pretty good.
>>
>>60496104
Looks good. You might upgrade to an m.2 drive for simplicity and get a second HDD for redundancy if it's for work
>>
>>60496121
Sony Vegas and Photoshop and whatever does rendering. Not too sure what he actually uses. And I figured I'd throw the AIO since it would fit in the front of the case nicely. Also I was thinking of overclocking it if neccessary, which is why I considererd the AIO.
>>
>>60496140
Then yeah those two together will definitely benefit a lot from the extra cores
The AIO is just pretty expensive for what it offers but if you wanna get it it's fine still
>>
>>60496148
The case comes with 2 fans so I thought the AIO would be nice since I can move the default front fan to the top for airflow. Is there a better fan to use that would fit the case?

>>60496349
It's good for HTPC emulators and dwarf fortress.

Like if you just want to make a box in your living room that just runs emulators. It's the only one you can overclock the iGPU on. Though a lesser i3s or even a G4560 works perfectly fine for Dolphin and PCSX2. So idk.

It's very similar performance to the i5-2500k in gaming. But the i5-2500k isn't good enough anymore.

Go for a raid setup then. Buy a NAS box, throw 3-4 hard drives in them and watch as your files fly across over ethernet Some NAS devices allow you to have a seperate m.2 or mSATA drive as cache, you could even consider that if you have the dough for it. Won't speed up read times but it'll allow you to send files over without having to wait for them to get written.

If you are planning to use iGPU G4600 is worth the extra over G4560 since it has 2x execution units in the iGPU(Intel HD 610 vs HD 630). For builds with a dedicated graphics card the G4560 is optimal since the clockspeed difference between the two are negligible.

Alright, so what RAID array is the best to go with then? Seems like RAID 1 and RAID 10 are the most common choices but RAID 1 is just focused on speed while RAID 10 has better reliability?

The highest your motherboard supports. The difference in cost between different speeds of RAM is minimal, there's really no reason to not get the fastest your mobo supports.

Casing and assembly make up most of the purhase price, the disks themselves are dirt cheap. Thus low capacity hard drives are relatively expensive.

>>60497646
>Raid 0: best performance, no redundancy
>Raid 1: best redundancy, mediocre write performance, severy limits your capacity
Raid 10 combines these two, giving you benefits from both sides. It has better write speed and gives larger capacity than raid 1 and doesn't die if one drive gets fucked.

>>60497714
Diminishing returns hit hard after 2666 mhz, at least for gaming. You do still benefit from higher frequencies but they're not woth the premium that some companies charge for them. Spend your money on other components rather than meme RAM.
>>
>>60497743

>Do speeds that high have temp problems? Would I need a fan for my RAM or is that a meme?

It is Grade-A marketing meme. In fact no ram runs hot enough to even need a heatsink given the typical airflow a pc case has. All those flashy looking ram sticks are (generally) just marketing gimmicks because memory technology advances very slowly so manufacturers add bling to entice people to pick one brand over the other when it is generally all the same shit.
>>
>>60497743
Stick to something like 3000 or 3200 then, you don't need a fan or anything like that.

FYI, you only get full speed from the WAP if you're in the same room as the router. If there is even the tiniest obstruction in the way, the WAP switches back down to lower 802.11ac standard frequencies. So you basically overpaid for a glorified 802.11ac router that goes a tiny bit faster on a dry day when your device is smack up against those antennae.

If I buy a 1080 now how long will it be adequate for?

Depends on what you consider as adequate. It'll be useable untill 1280 is released but as time goes on you'll have to drop down resolution and/or settings to keep framerates at playable levels. If you want great performance then you'll need to buy the latest XX80 version every time one is released to keep up.

Not sure what you mean by "they," but if you're talking about the RX 480/580 and GTX1070, they are nothing close to the same.

Hard to say exactly. Not many benchmarks out there for UW. Getting smooth performance is a mix of enough raw power, tweaking settings, using Vsync correctly, and avoiding screen tearing.

You can get away with an RX 580 or go a little overboard with a GTX 1070.

Honestly there aren't that many good UW monitors out there. Most don't have a refresh rate that passes 75.

I want to upgrade my PC. Right now I have an FX-4100 and an R9 280x. I use it for Solidworks and gaymen. It does okay but lags on large assemblies and I can't max out any games. I want to keep my motherboard, so on a budget of <$700 (less being better), what should I get for my:

>CPU (must be AM3+)
>GPU
>SSD (just to run the OS and maybe 1 or 2 programs that could benefit from it)
>1TB+ HDD

Also, if I have some malware on my current HDD and do a clean install on a new SSD and boot from the SSD, and use the old HDD as extra storage for movies and stuff, can my new SSD install be infected by the old HDD?

Exactly my problem, why I can't decide. There aren't any UW benchmarks to go on. And yes, mine is 75Hz, that's why I wouldn't want to go overboard.

The tomshardware link has pretty basic guide for overclocking and should help you get started. Overclocking is something you can't really learn by reading about it and is something that requires hands on experience. I have overclocked plenty of processors and graphics cards in the recent years including older stuff like Q9400, i5-3570K and newer stuff like i5-7600K and Ryzen 1600X. Every platform and processor is very different and not all previous rules apply, but hand-on experience helps and no other way to get it than to overclock.

Use something like HWMonitor to watch temps and core voltage (CPU-Z is fine for voltage too). Go to bios and change Vcore (or something simular, depends on the bios) and change cpu multiplier. Also enable XMP for your memory, since it seems you could be not running at the rated speed.

With 3570K and good cooling I'd say you should be able to hit ~4.5GHz fairly easily. I was able to do 4.4GHz with my old 3570K with 1.25V with a shitty aircooler, but your results may vary. I'd stay under 1.4V on voltage for CPU. There should be Loadline calibration (LLC) settings in some CPU VRM related settings. Use different levels of LLC to keep voltage stable if during stress test your voltage fluctuates around alot.

For stress testing I'd recommend going with a suite of programs like Prime95, OCCT (both Linpack and regular) and Intel burn test. Variety is the key to make sure your overclock is stable.

>>
>>60498914
Don't install any of that shit.
Only things you need after installing Windows are GPU drivers and whatever programs you use. Motherboard manufacturers programs are useless shit and only reason to go to their download site is to download BIOS updates or sound drivers/ LAN drivers but most of the time you don't need to do any of that since Windows downloads some of those automatically and even then default Windows drivers are just as good.

How many volts are you on?
In speedfan, click configure and go to the Advanced tab. There should be a dropdown menu, there should be tabs for your most of your devices. One of them should have fan speeds and you should switch the speeds from whatever setting (thermal cruise, automatic or whatever) they are on and put it on PWM if your fans are 4-pin and DC if they are 3-pin, also check the remember this box. Try to post some images of those tabs so I can tell you a little bit more.

But basically after that you just close the configuration tab and tweak the percentage sliders and see which fan is rotating faster/slower and go to configuration and to Fans and Speeds tabs and rename those fans. After you are done with figuring out which fan is which you go to fan control tab and create new fan controller, select the controlled speed (fan) add the temperature from one of the CPU cores or package and just create a curve for it.

>7700k for video editing, gaming & photoshop build
The R7 1700 (8 cores 16 threads, double what the 7700k has) is much better at video editing because it scales very well with core & threads, and those 8 cores will allow you to do heavy multitasking without it having any impact on your editing / gaming. Wanna have Premiere Pro / Vegas & Photoshop open in the background while gaming? Absolutely no problem. The video encoding time will be faster because of more cores, and jumping around the video (going at start then end of video then middle etc etc) also gets quicker with more cores. No hiccups while playbacking effects-heavy stuff without doing previews either. It also doesn't need a cooler, whereas the 7700k, and not a cheap one considering it heats a real lot.

>Hyper 212 evo
Is shit for a 7700k because it heats quite a lot (that's what absurdly high clocks does to a CPU, that and the shitty TIM). It's not needed for the R7 1700, and if you wanna overclock a better $30 cooler would be a better choice (a 212 evo is 8 years old), namely the be quiet dark rock pro or some others coolers.

Getting higher clocked RAM for higher memory bandwidth might not be a bad idea, memory bandwidth definitely helps in photo & video editing, and it also helps a lot Ryzen processors as it speeds up the communication there is between cores, effectively making the CPU more powerful.

A WD Blue is a not a good idea for gaming & editing, as those are 5400rpm drives which is noticeably slower than 7200rpm drives. I don't think WD makes 2TB Caviar Blue drives, so you'll have to get a Seagate or Toshiba one (do not get a WD Black)

The rest os good

Meh, depends if you plan on upgrading as you go or just shelling out for a new PC in 7 years. I'm in the middle of replacing my 6y/o $200 budget build and I'm just getting a non-modular.

Alright guys. Looking over my build, I can't decide whether to get an RX570 or an RX580. nVidiafags need not apply.
The most demanding game I want to play is Forza Motorsport Apex and Forza Horizon 3, which both have some lofty minimum requirements. A 570 blows away the minimum requirements but seems just short of the recommended specs. Should I jump to the RX 580?

Hey /b/ rate my hypothetical pc build

Budget approx $2000 (plus $1000 for monitor, mouse + keyboard)

$519 - AMD Ryzen 7 1700X
$729 - 8G GTX 1080 Asus TURBO
$188 - Samsung 960 EVO M.2 250G
$102 - WD Black SATA3 1TB

I'm not seeing a cooler in there, tje r7 1700x doesn't come without one. You might wanna get the R7 1700 instead which is lower clocked but otherwise has the exact same specs, and comes with a decent cooler.

$200 for a motherboard is a lot. Unless you're doing SLI, Crossfire, need the extra PCIe lanes, or extreme (very) overclocking, you shouldn't get such an expensive mobo. b350 mobos are good for the average gamer, even for decent OCs.

>$100 case/psu
Do not ever get a case that already has a PSU in it. They are very low quality and are not made to handle enthusiasts build such as yours. Buy both separately.

>GTX 1080
Unless you're doing 4K or 1440p at (very) high framerate, that's way overkill. Drop down to a GTX 1060/RX 580, or if you really want to be overkill there still is the GTX 1070 that is miles ahead of both of those. But a GTX 1080 is quite a waste of money.

I own a 1tb external hard drive that is empty currently plus I've been living with a laptor with 32gb hard drive (acer r11). Right now I just need a functional pc and since I was gonna do my first build soon I thought I'd bring that forward.

I won't need a lot of storage (or the high end cpu/gpu) for another 6-12 months and I can wait till then to upgrade storage.
>>
>>60500532
Upgrading storage (unless you are just slotting in a 2nd HDD) is more complicating that just throwing it in your case. It's best to just get all your new parts in at once instead of over time.
>>
>>60499788
Looks good to me, Kurt
450W is sort of cutting it short (500w would be much better) though
And 2x4GB is better than 1x8GB because of dual channel, unless you put only one stick for upgradeability purposes

That Zalman case is very meh. It gets dusty in there very, very fast, and cable management inside of it is annoying as fuck. Also if you spill some water on top of the case there is a 100% chance it will hit the GPU & motherboard.
I had one and i disliked it a lot.

For your GPU, if it's 1080p gaming you're aiming for, RX 480, RX 580 or GTX 1060. RX 470 is good too, in fact it's the best value GPU right now and is pretty good for 1080p, but the RX 480/580/GTX 1060 would be ideal because they don't cost that much more and will last a bit longer.

>Unless you're doing 4K or 1440p at (very) high framerate, that's way overkill.
I'm planning on buying a 144hz 1440p monitor and I want the GPU to be fairly future proof. The 1070 and 1080 are about $200 apart on the site I linked and that seems worth it if I get an extra year out of the card.

I'm a n00b tho so please tell me if I'm wrong
>>
>>60500633
>I'm a n00b tho so please tell me if I'm wrong
No you're right, the GTX 1080 would definitely be a better choice for 144hz 1440p.

Also, although the R7 1700 is good at gaming, it's not really what it's made for. Unless you make use of the eight cores (16 threads), and gaming won't really do that, you might wanna drop that either to a 6 cores 12thread (which will perform the same in gaming) or 7700k (which can achieve higher framerate than both of these CPUs, although it has only 4 cores & 8 threads so less room for other stuff)
>>
What's are some good monitors for 1440p 144hz? I am not interested in the 4k meme.
>>
>>60500670
I work with a friend who does video editing so I think the R7 should be a good fit.

I was wondering, its been almost a year since the 1080 has been out, is nividea likely to release a new card soon? Would it be worth the wait given I waited 3 months already?
>>
>>60500763
They've released the GTX 1080ti but their next architecture (Volta) is for the start of 2018, which is quite a lot of time from now on.
There's also the AMD Vega cards that will release in the following months (with the pro card releasing end of next month & not much information about the others)
>>
>>60500580
>450W is sort of cutting it short (500W would be much better though)
Yeah, I was going to get a 500W B but it didn't have Prime shipping and would have gotten to me a few days after my buddy left for a job on a gold ship in Alaska.

As for RAM, I got it because it was 8GB, compatible and decently cheap. But now that I have room to upgrade with my mobo I'll definitely look in to it when I come across some dosh.

I've had this case for like 6 years, I usually keep my PC behind my monitor/TV or above them, so I haven't had an issue with liquids. Yeah, cable management sucks, and FUCK the dust, but it's got fans that I don't have to order separately.

And I'll probably go for an RX470. I've spent the last 6 years playing games at the lowest possible settings, so playing on medium or slightly lower than high is gonna feel like Ultra++ to me

>>
>>60500799
Man seems like there's always something to wait for.

Will these AMD pro cards releasing end of next month compete directly with the 1080?

Also to give some context on my thinking I was originally going to build my first computer about 10 months ago and I put off buying a 970 to wait for the 480. Back then $1600 was a stretch.
Since then I've been saving up for nothing except this computer which I've been to busy to actually buy. I have almost $10k to spend but obviously I'm not gonna spend it all on a computer.

Basically it won't annoy me too much if AMDs card is the same or slightly worse performance but I lose a hundred bucks buying nividea earlier. However it will annoy me a lot if the AMD card is even slightly better performance given how long I've waited already.

The pro card we've seen performed the same as the GTX 1080ti in the Sniper Elite 4 4K footage they've shown a few days ago
But there also is pricing that comes to mind. This is a Pro card so it will most likely be quite more expensive than the consumer version. The consumer version is also higher clocked so it will perform better in game (but not in compute obviously).

They'll reveal more info at computex in 10 days, that's about all of what we know right now.

>>60500983
More expensive obviously means better overclocking. Now if you're not aiming for the best but instead something decent (which is still enough to reach 4GHz), there's a lot of good b350 mobos for it. Asus Prime B350 Plus, MSI - B350 PC MATE, Gigabyte - GA-AB350M-Gaming 3, etc etc

Without spending too much time on /pcbg/ I'm starting to think everyone in this thread is a paid shill. What the hell is wrong the i5? For most video games it seems like an i5 is better than an R5. Everybody but /g/ seems to make the same conclusion. I'm a mechanical engineer so I may do some CAD and CAE in my spare time but besides that I'll only be gaming.

>tldr; why R5 > i5 for gaming?
>>
>>60502041
You get 6 cores with multithreading instead of 4 cores without multithreading at the same price point. The difference in single core performance isn't much, and the R5's will continue to stay good as games start to use more cores but i5's are already at 90-100% usage so they have nowhere to go.
>>
>>60502041
>What the hell is wrong the i5?
It has only 4 cores and 4 threads. Becomes a bottleneck in any AAA game from the past 2 years.
>For most video games it seems like an i5 is better than an R5.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBKHsMar1Jo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6Ovmxfejvo
https://youtu.be/JypkqwpOtNI?t=8m

>tldr; why R5 > i5 for gaming?
Because it has only 4 core and 4 threads, which makes it reach very high CPU usage during AAA gaming. While all CPUs of the R5 series have at worst 4 cores 8 threads and at best 6 cores 12 threads, which results in more room left / much more room left, then it's a no-brainer.

Also, upgradeability (AM4 CPUs being released for 3+ years, whereas LGA 1151 is at the very best getting it's last CPUs at the end of the current year, and it's not even sure).
>>
>>60502079
How do we know games will start to use more cores in the near future (say, 3 years)? Sounds like armchair theorizing.
>>
>>60498862
I have a 2560x1080 ultrawide and use an rx 480. It's plenty powerful to run most games at max settings around 60fps but some drop to 40s since it's a harder resolution to push than normal 1080p. If you're ok turning down a few settings once in a while to maintain 60-75fps the 580 will be great. Personally I'm going to upgrade to something around 1070 level just to not have to worry about tweaking settings for a while. I have a freesync monitor though so I'm hoping Vega will have a card in the 1070-1080 range
>>
>>60502149
Because 4 cores 4 threads are at their limit and clocks can't be cranked higher?
Also, because AMD released mainstream 6+ CPUs and intel will be following this at the end of the year with Cannonlake?

There is nowhere else to go, and mainstream desktop CPUs are getting more cores.
In fact, game already do take advantage of more core. The 2 years old GTA V takes advantage of all 16 threads of my R7 1700. Why? Because the engine was made so that it would spread the load the most it can, and that can be done in a way that it does it automatically depending on the number of threads so that you don't have to set how it's spread for each different thread count.
>>
>>60501870

>>
>>60502257

CPU
Ryzen 5 1500X(dee). you might even want to grab a 1600 or 1600X, if you are willing to pay for the extra bit of performance and longevity.

Mobo
MSI B350 Tomahawk

RAM
RAM is RAM. Doesn't really matter what you get as long as it is 8GB or more and fast.

HDD
I currently have a WD Caviar Blue 7200RPM 1TB. Love it, been great to me so far. What you want to look for in a hard drive is a high RPM and obviously size.

GPU
You'll probably want to grab a 1060 of some sort. It'll last you for the next few years and it'll put out real high performance as well.

PSU
Get an EVGA PSU, at the minimum get a Bronze certified one. 500W is usually what most people get just because its got you covered in power fluctuations and for upgrading parts if your heart desires.

The cooler that comes with the Ryzen 5 is bretty gud, so you don't have to worry about that unless you are a middle eastern goatfucker.

Eh I've read a lot of shit about your ram kit mattering a lot for Ryzen, something about dye numbers, cl, and shit.

>You'll probably want to grab a 1060 of some sort.
I remember these generals use to say using nvidia / amd had issues in some games? Wouldn't the 580 8gb be a pretty good alternative around the same pricepoint?

This, IMO.

Removed the wireless card, replaced with a mobo that includes a very good wireless card+antenna, and switched the SSD for something cheaper.

also, If you shopped around you could probably find a better SSD at or around the same price but I'm not your mommy so you do that. You'd also just be served better if you dropped that stupid expensive Samsung SSD for anything cheaper and moved the extra money into your CPU and got a K model to OC.

In the box it comes with an antenna you screw into the ports on the i/o panel. It can be placed quite some distance from your tower with the cable that screws in, and stuff. it's a good antenna.

swap the processor for an AMD Ryzen 5 1500X.
Swap the motherboard for an Asrock AB350M Pro4
Swap the ram for DDR4-2400 memory or DDR4-2666 memory. 8GB should be plenty though

If you want performance per dollar though, step up from the Ryzen 5 1500X to the Ryzen 5 1600.

Why not just a single 8gb dimm for now, so you can get another in a little while?

I have ah i7-7700k at 5.0 all 4 cores stable, I aired on the side of safe. But at loads I don't go above 77º Celsius with a Corsair H100i running inside of an ultra cramp itx config. I don't get any throttling nor performance drops. I have no idea if this is good or bad in terms of /g/ autism numbers. But for me it works as intended and I am satisfied.

It is technically worse, but you really won't suffer any performance loss in gaming in the interim. and it will cost you more money in the long run to get an entirely new set of 2 dimms instead of just getting 1 dimm at a time. 8gb total isn't enough realistically, so you'll really want that 16gb.

>>
>>60503998
There any way to mitigate the bullshit?

How bad is the backwards compatibility with older programs?
>>
>>60504006
Yes, if one dimm is compatible another identical dimm would work in a dual-channel configuration.

However, this is just what I would do. You could get 2x4 and then another 2x4 as I see the mobo has 4 dimm slots, however space could be an issue on such a small mobo, depending on the heatsink. A lot of heatsinks on mobos that size can completely obstruct the first dimm slot.

so, for that concern, I would go for 1x8, and then 1x8 later on, they must be identical dimms, however.

Shall I try and remove the heat spreader? My ram is OC from 1600 mhz to 2133 using 1.5v (iirc) so will removing the heat spreader affect this?

Or shall I flip the hyper212 fan to the other side of the heatsink? I don't know how to change the settings for push/pull so this might be a problem for me.

I liked AIO because the rad mounted directly to the case and exhausted hot air out. I don't recommend ever doing a pull configuration from a rad into your case, that shit's retarded.
