On the big data / cloud / web server side it's somewhat of an "everyone but Google" open sauce group around Java / Scala, for the most part.

*Google* can't kill that one and even less by allowing an additional Android language.

Scala -while it's easily possible- isn't even much used for Android development. You don't generally hire people with more skills to do apps right now.
