I've been defending Firefox for too long, but this browser has gone to complete shit in the past couple of years and it's time to retire it. I hate to join the botnet of Chrome but the performance is unbeatable, why isn't there a better alternative?
>>
Opera?
>>
>>60467732
>chinese botnet
>>
>>60467693

Any alternatives will have far fewer users than Chrome, and will therefor be much more apt to bugs, glitches, exploits, etc. simply because they are used far less than the popular alternatives.

There are other choices, but I can't personally reccomend any, because honestly they are mostly garbage.
>>
>>60467693
I remember on my old desktop, I had a literal chinese browser from when I left Firefox behind, but before switching to Chrome. Was pretty good.

A google search reveals it was Maxthon

You have to wait for the Servo engine I'm afraid or take a look at the numerous forks of FF, maybe there is one which suits your needs better.

chromium is chrome without the proprietary media plugins, anything else is the same.
>>
>>60467883
It still requires a google API key to build it for example.
>>
Vivaldi is what I moved from Opera to.
>>
Are these threads some kind of botnet script?
I don't pay attention to mozilla's SJW shit, and I hate the fact that they sometimes remove config options for the sole purpose of treating users like idiot children, but I've never had a problem with the usability of firefox itself.
And I find chromium runs worse than firefox. Also I hate the mouse scrolling, the fact that you need to run a third party autohotkey script to scroll through tabs, and the way closing expanded images on 4chan seems to reset your position on the page

Get the latest Nightly build, the performance is great because Quantum is being implemented and they're slowly phasing out the shitty Australis interface in favor of the new Photon one that's more like pre-Australis Firefox. The built-in Compact themes (new revisions of the old Developer ones) have squared tabs already too (also coming to Photon in the future), which helps take away the sting of WebExtensions becoming standard and Classic Theme Restorer probably eventually becoming deprecated. Note: in pic related I used userChrome to get rid of the hamburger button and some shitty thing in the URL bar, but that's it.
>>
Better question: why would anyone use Chrome instead of Chromium?
>>
>>60468479
Is Quantum the Servo engine?
>>
>>60468220

No, the performance is just so bad now. My guess is most Mozilla talent jumped ship for those Google bucks.

>>

I'll take a look, I have been waiting for servo for a while now. Although maybe I'll wait a bit more and let them implement more of it.

>>

More like DuckDuckGo it.
>>
>>60468642
Yeah it's in its early stages hence Nightly only, so it's still a work in progress. The performance felt actually felt worse until one update vastly improved it. I think you still have to enable the new stuff in about:config.

I get the worst glitch exploitations on Chrome. probably because it's so popular they target it specifically.
These are malicious exploits, though. Accidental hangups are more likely in less known browsers

Is https://github.com/Eloston/ungoogled-chromium a good alternative?

I do want to migrate too, but I only have 3GB of Ram. Weirdly, Firefox handles those well for some time. I'm able to open lots of tabs.
Other alternatives have given me problems, like Chromium for example can't handle those, many times I've had tabs crashing because of out of memory.
>>
>>60467693
Vivaldi has turned out awesome.

Still spreading this fake crap.
When Chrome launched the shills claimed it's super fast but it was as slow as FF which had 10+ addons.
>>

yup
>>
>>60468932

I had bad experience with ungoogled chrome, like every 5 minutes blocks google api calls or something, its so unstable that somehow stopped blocking the google calls and the store, spell checker and other things that were disable by default started working by itself

There are no good browsers left, but if you want to remember the glory days of Firefox, Pale Moon is a pretty good alternative. It's - for good and for ill - pretty much Firefox from when Firefox was still good, with security patches applied.
>>
>>60467693
Do a profile refresh.
Firefox is faster than ever. That is unless you're using it on a Pentium 2.

What are you doing that makes you think Chrome is faster? How many addons do you have enabled?
>>
>>60468577
Quantum is Gecko with Servo components.
>>60468616
No it's not.
>>
>>60470320
Okay, so servo is even farther away still.
>>
>>60467693
I wouldn't say it's gone to shit... it's pretty much now recently they started on actually improving performance (multi-process and also servo is gradually being integrated into firefox).
>>
>>60467693
Midori?
I've been using it for a week and a half and I like it so far. It's fast, has a built-in ad blocker and uses native widget style. That last part is big plus if you have riceing autism.

Midori is okay, but for me is just not good enough to be my daily driver.
>>

>>

Opera, Vivaldi, Brave, Safari, Edge are all fine

But Chrome is still probably better than all of those.

>>
It all comes down to privacy vs security. If you want privacy go with some fork like palemoon or ungoogled chromium/iridium. If you want security go with standard version of chromium or Firefox. Chromium is supposed to be more secure since it's sandboxing everything. Now where opinions part is if you should use stable builds or alphas/betas/nightlies. Some hackers target stable releases, others (or the government) may use zero day exploits in nightlies that are basically constantly added. Unbotnetted Forks that are better for privacy are worse for security because they are updated slower than the normal versions of the browsers and thus more vulnerable.

>>
>>60467693

The only alternative is Chrome or some Firefox fork such as Waterfox, Pale Moon, etc...

Chrome is pure shit, for one thing, your privacy is non-existent. Google allows all sorts of data collection in their addons, while Firefox does not. Plus, Chrome addons are pure garbage in comparison to Firefox. One last thing about Chrome, their UI is completely locked down, so there's zero customization to the browsers UI, other than stupid ass themes that just change the color and add goofy artwork.

As for the Firefox forks, they're crap too, since half the addons don't work in them.

Firefox itself is still good. The only problem I have with it, is it gets slow when streaming vids. If the devs fix that bullshit, Firefox will be rock solid.
>>
>>60467693
You see, I use firefox. It's my favorite.
some of theses days a person posted here about how he has used firefox for so long and how he was fascinated to observe Opera using much less ram.
I tested Opera, it indeed was far superior in ram consumption. I can't stand proprietary software, it's a problem to me. But firefox is not this good, anymore. It does use much ram, and does have major bugs.
I wish I would find some free software that works well like Opera but have addons like Firefox.
