Opinions on the elitebook 8760w?
seems like a solid laptop
a hp with scroll button for the clit
a 1080p with amazing colors from its own no modding required
pretty solid looking specwise
saw one with a i7-2760QM

how does it compare with the w520 or w530

Okay /tpg/, what's the most modular and cheapest laptop out there?

Trying again since I didn't get an answer last thread

Anyone ever changed their x220 trackpad cover (pic related)? I'm looking at the service manual and can't find anything on that part, except how to change the whole palm rest, which isn't what I'm trying to do.

I'm fairly certain that it isn't a sticker on the X220, contrary to the T420, if anyone who owns an X220 could confirm that it'd be great.

How much can I sell this ThinkPad for?

I have an X220 with an i5, 8GB RAM, 9-cell battery, and slice battery. It has no hard drive at the moment. Also some parts of the palm rest are cracked and I have a gbit ethernet card in it because the onboard ethernet stopped working. The IPS display is mostly good with a couple of light spots. The slice battery is cracked a bit and is in bad shape but works perfectly fine.

Should I sell this on eBay as-is or should I spend $30-50 on a 64-128GB SSD to get more money?

tl;dr:
so-so cosmetic condition
works fine for normal use, holds good charge
no major issues with usability
no hard drive at the moment, not sure if it's worth buying

I need a future-proof laptop that I can comfortably use at home for streaming movies and browsing and watching some animu from my hdd.

I don't really see the point to have a 'future-proof' laptop when this is all you do. By those standards, anything could be called 'future-proof'
Why even bother buying a laptop, when you are only using it at home.

I am using a 10 year old macbook atm and I can't even browse most sites without problems, everything is outdated, a lot of sites don't load completely and my ram is full after opening a few tabs.. that's mainly because my os and browser are outdated, but you get the point
I want something quick for what I want to use it for that will stay this way for the next years

I won't only use it at home, but for uni I only need to write and do internet research

do you know if X200/T400 has free as in freedom drivers or should i have to buy an adapter

Are there any alternatives to the T440p and T460p? I've been searching through the internet for 14" laptops that have or can have quad cores and I keep coming up with nothing except trash and le gamer razer. I don't need a graphics card because that would be external and z-height should be around 2.5cm r

If there were something old that had expressport also that'd be pretty sweet, I wouldn't have to upgrade GPU solution.

My T530's case has a few cracks which have been triggering me for a while. Is buying a palmrest for $33 from china worth it? I just hope it has the same quality plastic so I don't get chinked out of my money.
Also, my original case has no fingerprint reader, but I read somewhere that all T's have one but sometimes they're hidden under the case, is that true?

Hey guys,

I just bought this X240 for 150 eurodollars.

I wasn't especially looking for a Thinkpad, just a light use laptop for dumping my camera SD card on, and do some netflix and web browsing on the go.

It's the very base model, i3, came with 4GB and a 500GB HDD in very good condition, I just tested it a bit in the shop, seemed fine apart from the HDD slowness. So I put a 120GB SSD I had laying around in it as soon as I got home, along with a fresh instal of W7 pro, and now I must say it's a pretty snappy little machine.

As far as I understand it's considered one of the worst Thinkpads ever, but I've never tested any of the best ones, so I don't really have a basis to compare this one to.

The only problem I have left is the WWAN driver which won't install, even after installing NET 4. Although I don't think I'll ever put a SIM card in it.

I wouldn't spend that much unless it's in mint condition and doesn't have a garbage 1366 x 768 resolution. Also you will probably want to get more ram and an SSD and you might need a battery so you will need to factor that into the price.

I got this with a 320GB drive for 150 US almost a year ago. I don't know the market in canada but I would think you could find something cheaper

absolutely, especially from a price:performance standpoint

Lenovo just slaps the Thinkpad logo on anything these days
Cheap plastics, lower quality internals and a large missing featureset from classic Thinkpads (X220 line and before)
>>

It seems like a lot of manufacturers have gone down that path, everything feels flimsier than it did only half a decade ago.
Is it fair to assume the build quality of an aluminium chassis would generally trump a plastic one? Plastic feels awful to me.

Quad core is not necessary if you're not planning on doing any CPU intensive work. My T530 has an i5-3360M (2 cores, 4 threads, 2.8GHz base, 3.5GHz boost), it's more than adequate for shitposting and hi-res chink cartoons.

Weird problem I'm hoping someone can help me with. I've got a T410, run Linux on it. Sometimes when I type the screen flicks to black, really quickly, like a quick flicker not a blank, if that makes sense. It happens regardless of distro (or version of the same distro) so I'm starting to think it's a hardware issue.

Is it possibly a / the screen cable loose and typing sometimes disturbs it or something? I thought maybe it could be but if I tap around the keyboard / case it doesn't do it.

Could it be the battery, somehow? acpi -i says it's at 45% design capacity and it takes ages to charge, so it's definitely on the way out. Doubt it could have anything to do with this.

Help me /tpb/, you're my only hope. I've searched for the last half hour and found fuck all.

I need a 9 cell battery for my X201, the 6 cell is years old and holds less charge every day
I'm seeing cheap batteries, but they look like chinkshit and I once had a different thinkpad 9cell chinese battery and it literally stopped working in months.
If I search for real or genuine lenovo batteries, they cost as much as half the laptop itself.
I'm also seeing though this green cell thing, it costs between a chinese battery and a genuine lenovo battery.
Are green cell batteries the same as chinese shit rebranded, or are they actually good?
It says the 9cell is 6600mAh even though some 9 cell batteries (both chinese cheap ones and original lenovo ones) are 7800mAh which is much larger.

What do I buy for a 9cell for an X201

easy, but 2570p is still the superior eGPU portable due to quad-core support.

its a bit harder to set up with a 2570p due to the tolud limitation (128mb where 256mb is required for 950, you need to run clover bootloader and make certain files) but its worth

disable turbo when on battery and it runs cool and quiet (for 45w quads)

if youre fine with a dualcore the x230 is easy to set up and get working - then go for it.

I mean the replacing the cells yourself part because *30 and newer have some kind of chip thing in the batteries, it's the same reason you can't use *20 batteries on *30 series
>>
>>60494042
Well you can use them, they just wont let you charge them. I have an x220 and an x230 so sometimes if my x230 battery needs charging but I still want to use it will disconnected from AC, I will swap the batteries. The x220 is happy charging the x230 battery so I can leave that sitting and walk around with the x230 powered by the x220 battery.

yeah, i think i'll cop the dual core i7 version. where are the best places to buy thinkpads? ebay? what should i look out for? i'd like something in new condition that i will be able to put my RAM and SSD in.

if i were to get a 1060 in the future, would i notice a boost in performance, or would it be crippled by the expresscard bandwidth?

It works, this meme is retarded and old. They've been spoofing the battery hardware IDs since like 2013.

Also, EC flash for your custom battery pack.

If they keep the T470's 16:9 screen it goes directly into the dumpster.
>>
when did you realise thinkpads are the laptops of choice for nu-male cúcks? When will you get a MacBook like Chad the Alpha? Or are your NEETbux payments to low to afford a real laptop?
>>
I'm looking at 3rd party ultrabays on amazon for my t430

Are there any recommendations for brand? They are all around the same price and all of them seem to have a mix of reviews

hes right you know. The 4910mq works great in that chassis, and skullfucks most any task you could ask it to perform. To boot, the T440p is designed to handle a 45w CPU even without the dGPU heatsink, so you dont get the same issues sad shitters get with quad core T430's or that one damn dell which wont be named from the Ivy Bridge gen. I had myT440p overclocked to 4.1 single core, down to 3.9 all core with a slight undervolt, and 1.5ghz on the HD4600. Coupled with some 2133 ram, it could legitimately handle Fallout NV and World of tanks at 1080p on medium settings at 60fps. I cant speak to the 57W parts on that chassis though, someone braver than I might have some experience.
>>
Do all Thinkpads have shitty integrated graphics or do some have a decent GPU? I'd love to play some light vidya

Couldnt a 430 with the 5400m do the same?
>>
>>60494931

All the X2xx have integrated

The T4xx and T5xx have dedicated nvidia gpus as an option. They arent high end gaymen models but midrange mobile cards.
>>
>>60494935
Potentially so, my experience with the 430 line is limited to an iGPU T430s with an i7-3520m, which I felt had a bit limited thermal capacity. Having done a bit of research, it stands to reason the 430 would be capable of 1080p on those titles, provided it had a screen of sufficient resolution, which barring external displays it does not. The part that impressed me most was that it managed it on the integrated graphics, not necessarily the absolute performance.

Having problems with my X220 where the onscreen notification for things like caps lock or mute won't go away.
>>
>>60494996

yeah, intels integrated gpus have gotten a lot better over the years. From worthless to actually able to play modern games on med settings.

I have a 430 with the 3320, and while it does get a little too hot for my taste I havent had many (noticible) problems with throttling, but I just play dota and war thunder

P50/P51 have a GTX 960 equivalent and P70 has a GTX 1070M equivalent.

*P71, P70 is much weaker

Anybody here buy a t400 to libreboot?
I'm primarily interested in it for comfyness so I'd like to hear your thoughts as to how comfy it actually is to use.

I have a green cell battery in my T530, it's not as good as genuine lenovo was when it was new. That, or my testing methodology changed.
Still breddy gud for the price.
>>
Just picked up a T43 from a charity shop for £5 lads.

I already had an x201, but this is /comfy/ as fuck. It's fucking a single core 1.86GHz Pentium M and still very snappy.

Is this the /comfiest/ thrift of all time? Can anybody beat this?
>>
>>60493826
>he bought a chinese battery and expected the advertised capacity

Did you even read the thinkpad buyers guide?
>>
>>60496386
Fuck you're lucky anon.
Most of the charity stores where I live all say that they don't take electronics of any kind.
I can only imagine how fun it'd be to clean it, both software wise and hardware wise.

>cleaning

Don't even need to. it's in great nick. There's a few sticky keys, but I used a spudger to get the shit out from under neath them and the keyboard is now A1. Case in great condition and very clean (although there is sticker residue on the lid)

The keyboard is actually better than the last non-chiclet Lenovo ones. There's a light click when it activates you can feel in your fingers so you know that it registered.

OS is pirated Win 7, wiping that today and finding a linux distro

I can just imagine myself laid in bed with this unit, typing away to a friend. /comfort/ is how I sum this unit up.
