This is absolute bull shit to place Arch and Gentoo together.

Arch is a joke distro which is made to teach schoolkids CLI, it's never employed in production by serious companies. Every developed distro has a minimal installer up to installing an OS from a chroot environment, for example Ubuntu Core or debootstrap, schoolkids don't know about it, they think that there's only a GUI installer in Ubuntu and Debian.

Gentoo is a professional distro with a high level of flexibility through the robust established compilation toolchain, the unified interface for compilation flags in the portage system, good tools for kernel compilation. For example Google uses Gentoo as a base for Chrome OS.

To cut long story short, Arch is for pajeets who can't manage their time but who want to show that they know CLI, Gentoo is for professional engineers who want a reliable and flexible system.

It's pretty neat choice actually, Gentoo is to get better understanding of the system under the hood, to configure everything, to create a fine tuned system. Ubuntu is often used in production, for example Docker containers.

Arch Linux is for amateur users, because ability too configure xorg isn't valued by companies using Linux in a production environment. Arch wiki is a gem though.

>I'm 15 years old, installed Gentoo, when I was 12 (I remember being too young to join the forums) and stayed, because it was awesome. Binary distros was hard to manage, and updates were slow. Gentoo just worked. I use it for desktop, hardest part is resolving the conflicts, otherwise it is really easy to maintain, even if you use patches or want the latest version of some packages. I like, that I can filter licenses in the make.conf, so it is not going to install proprietary software, without my awareness.
