Now that another Torrent giant (Extra Torrent) has joined the likes of KAT in internet history books it's more important than ever to hoard and safeguard as much data that you like while you still can. Pirate bay may be next on the hit list. Keep your data safe, cause that copy you got may be the only one still in existence in non shitty quality. Buy as many hdds as you can to make multiple copies, don't be cheap and suffer the tragic loss of all your hard gotten data.
>>
>>60455679
agreed, remember to store in raid.
Also store the better quality videos.
A video can always be re-encoded to a shittier quality + smaller size file LATER. but when the sneakernet is all we have left you're gonna regret saving shit stuff.

lmao I'll believe it when I see it

piratebay is probably better protected against all this, especially with their legal experience from raids way back when
>>
>>60456827
They shut pirate bay down every month.. the company that owns the physical internet just fire walled their ip for everyone on the fucking planet just a couple months ago.

I'm surprised there isn't a daily backup of the site as a downloadable torrent.

You would think if these fuckers actually cared about the freedom of information or some shit and not the money they would have a torrent for a copy of the site or a database of all torrents

TPB is full of viruses and low-bit rate garbage. Oh no, all those YIFY rips might be lost! The real tragedy was WCD going down, because PTH/RED is still missing a shit ton of stuff. As autistic as WCD was about its encoding standards, that's the quality of stuff we should be backing up. If you're a member of one of the "big" private trackers, you should be hoarding. If another one of those goes down then there will be a ton of high quality stuff that's basically lost forever.

Public trackers are generally only good for getting the latest scene releases. They are not for high quality content and aren't worth backing up.

There's a difference between data hoarding and wasting space.
>Hoarding music
Subjetive, chances are.that streaming services have better catalog.that the one you can find.online. However I would never pay for spotify or else.
>Hoarding books
Good. Can save hundreds of books within GB.
>Hoarding movies
Meh. Can't say it is a good use of space, sure you can find and hoard titles that are hard to find irl, but most of the time you will be saving rips or movies you won't see enough times to justify. Else BlueRays are relatively cheap and you can find good deals on amazon and else.
>Anime/Series
Good. Finding or importing them can be a pain and boxsets are overpriced based on the series. They offer a good space/runtme relation and they will save you from boredom when you i.ternet goes off.
>Games
Not a fan of gamming but i can see people hoarding games just to save time downloading them later or everytime they want to install them in a new device.
>Images
Not really into hard or comics but they are relatively small enough to hold some hundreds under a GB.
>Music videos
I would never spend my time downloading them from youtube and saving them. Very accessible and you can find them under 5 seconds.
>Software
Waste of time. Unless you collect OS you will have to download and substitute every piece of.software you have saved everytime a new version comes out.
>ROMS
Lightweigh and most of.the sets are under 100GB. Sometimes you can plug and ay in any computer without having to install stuff. I save some emulators inside my roms folders for plug&play

Are there any good decentralised trackers yet? I've looked at a few on Zeronet and they all seem mediocre

Fuuuuuccckkk my asshole. I used Extra Torrent on the reg. I was just using it last night. I just filled up two 3TB HDDs with good media. Glad I went on a downloading spree last week and got a bunch of movies and shit I wanted to watch. But still, Silicon Valley, Better Call Saul, and new Mr Robot soon.... :[

So what's the next big torrent site out there? TPB has some shit, I guess, but it's sketch these days.
>>
I've been doing this for years. Everything from my music to movies to fap pics to porn vids, etc.

The thing that I don't get the most is that people don't keep copies of music and instead just stream. I guess I'm an odd case since I seem to be the only person born after 1980 and before 2010 to never own a cell phone, but I'd hate to not have my music all saved in decent quality for my music and iPod Touch. And I don't get people not keeping their movies and shows because "Dude Netflix lmao". What if Netflix takes something off? What if they start removing parts because it's "problematic"? Same goes for books, too.
>>
>>60460245
Use Zooqle for shows. It's way better that ET was anyway for that. I used ET for lots of things (after KAT got shoah'd), however, Zooqle has long been where my show allegiance lies.

>Unless you collect OS you will have to download and substitute every piece of.software you have saved everytime a new version comes out.

sometimes that's exactly the point, to save a previous version of a software before a later update fucked it up/removed features etc. for example i have prime95 for benchmarking, but on haswell chips like mine, the newest version pushes them too hard (not in terms of cpu utilization but it's something to do with cache sizes) and can lead to bluescreens during testing - however older versions of prime95 don't have this issue. So i have the old one saved. I actually backed it up to google drive so it's handy and accessible for whichever pc im working on.
>>
>>60460294
same with movies/tv shows, I much prefer downloading them to watch whenever you want instead of streaming on netflix etc. Plus i tend to find that torrenting a dvdrip/brrip of a show means it comes without adverts, tv channel logos, etc that are quite often present in streaming versions. I recently watched Vikings (amazing show if you're into history) and one season was the tv version by accident, and all the "previously on vikings" "next time on vikings" and history channel logos popping up etc really took me out of the show and i didn't enjoy the episodes as much. it's only later i realised it's because all that shit takes you out of the immersion of the show.

however with music i just can't be bothered to download and save it all, i listen to a lot of new music and i actually find streaming services a lot easier. I have google play, which werks pretty well and has a lot of curated playlistssuggested based on where you are (if you enable location), what you listen to, etc. There's no adverts so I really don't mind google knowing I'm into dreamy post-rock or something. Also I can upload stuff i buy on bandcamp or whatever, then stream it to any other device. And you can download albums onto a phone straight from the service to play offline.

so basically i think there's a happy medium, depends whether you prioritise quality of content or convenience. I'm glad for now we have both options for almost everything.

>>60460038
It protects you from data loss due to drive failure.

I'm aware that Imgur.com will stop allowing adult images since 15th of May. I'm taking actions to backup as much data as possible.
