How much money can you burn initially?
Best price/TB is LTO tapes, but the drive is very very expensive and you can't use it as storage/media server (unless you go for library loader thingy but that's way beyond any reasonable budget)
Cheapest HDDs are usually 3TB (depending on where you live), but for upgradeability you'll be better off getting 10TBs now.
Keep in mind that HDDs can die at any moment and make at least raid5 server (raid6 for >20TB or >4 data drives), don't trust all your data to some shitty externals.

Your comment is true if you already have the magnet or .torrent file. But for those who need to search for torrents, the loss of a site can *potentially* be a problem. But in practice, it's not much of a problem because the public sites have so many duplicates of each others' torrents.
