german cars are meant for roads that have literally almost no imperfections like the roads of western europe. that and being maintained by the book... protip whereas bmw usa recommends a 10k oil change interval, they recommend shorter intervals in europe. why is that? because of the free maintenance, so they extend the oil change intervals to make the free services as low in cost to them as possible at the expense of the buyer's engines reliability

BMW. Hate everything about them, especially their bikes. Needlessly complicated for nothing. Special tool for the oil filler? Seriously?

I have a bit of a bias against Suzuki, some of their bikes are excellent but some are dog shit and full of problems. Any brand that had a very good reputation in the 50-70's for American made, extremely reliable, cutting edge, down to earth blue collar or hippy founder, but went public and lost their way. Craftsman is a good example. Or for that matter pretty much any classic American company.

The worst is when they go full blown bankrupt and the name is sold off to some faceless Chinese manufacturer.

With computers I like intell and Nvidia for no real reason besides my first pre-built "gaming" computer had them, and I became an entrenched fanboy. Same with PlayStation. I think I'm right to be skeptical of any hardware made my mircosoft though.

>Made in America
>inferior product

I'm assuming you're not actually American.
>>
>>60447420
Nope, I live in the middle of Flyover Country, USA.

Saw it growing up with (what else) cars. My grandfather was a WWII vet and refused to buy a Japanese car. One after another product of Detroit (a Pontiac, two different Dodge sedans, I think one other one I'm forgetting) was a broken-down heap of junk by 60,000 miles. He was fed up with it, and finally held his nose and bought a Toyota. Which just ran with no problems for fifteen years and 150k until he died. American brands have no incentive to actually make quality products because they know people will buy them just because they're American.
>>
>>60447570
One one type of product turned out bad and you think all American products are bad. You're a moron.
>>
>>60447658
You're a moron for thinking that a captive market makes companies more likely, rather than less likely, to offer a quality product.

Okay Einstein, let's go over the facts. If a brand offers quality products, YouTubers and internet forums are most likely going to recommend them. If they are being paid to do an ad, they are legally required to state it. Your friends and family members will recommend brands they enjoy, in hopes you will enjoy them too. This is especially prevalent in food. "Yo, wanna hang out sometime? There's this great restaurant up the street!" If you are curious about any product, there's an internet full of sources and reviews. Now onto American produced goods. I'm sure we can both agree China has shittier living and working conditions than the US. And China is where we get most of our products. So, in turn, if the Americans are paid more, given better working conditions, and have better living conditions, why in the fuck wouldn't the product be just the same, or more likely, better than the other product? However most people buy American produced goods because they want their money flowing through their own country's economy. If you are tight on money, China makes pretty good stuff as well. This is not to say that all Chinese made products are not as good as the US made products. There are some Chinese made products that are even better than the other US made product. Do you have a problem with capitalism, edgy teenage commie twat? It seems that this system works, unlike communism.

Well yeah, if you believe in capitalism you should be agreeing with me. If a bunch of people are buying a company's products because of some reason other than their quality or price (e.g., "people buy American produced goods because they want their money flowing through their own country's economy") then that company doesn't really have to compete on price or quality. They can get sales by saying "Hey, we're American!". It's a distortion of the market that happens when people trade for reasons other than strictly economic ones.

Same deal with protectionism. If you keep the foreign companies out the domestic companies have a lot less competition. Less competition leads to higher prices and poorer quality. (you might recognize this effect of lack of competition with regards to ISPs.)
>>
>>60447999
You wanna know why you're a moron? Because most Americans aren't going to pay more for an inferior product just because it was made in America so if a company wants that label to mean something, their product has to at the very least be as good as a foreign competitor's product.

no, all industrial products that come out of the USA are probably second to none. Consumer products however? you're dreaming if you believe they're better than anything else.

I posed a boomer the same fucking question at a walmart when we were looking for packaging tape, Duck(made in china) and 3M (made in america), same lengh and width, 3m $5.50 duck $1.98.

Guess which one he preferred to buy? People like to say they buy would buy american, but at the end of the day they are not willing to put their money where their mouth is. and worse are completely ignorant to the fact that what they think are american products are actually manufactured elsewhere. And when the toyota camry is manufactured in your own state and people look at it as a foreign car, that is just some cognitive dissonance worthy of a study.

The less you buy overseas and the more you produce domestically the more the dollar is worth. In extreme case America will produce nothing and won't buy anything because dollar is only worth something if you can buy goods with it. It was very apparent in Russia when oil prices dropped, value of ruble halved and prices for a whole lot of products rised because of the dependency on the import in almost every sphere.
>mah global trading
The less good America produces the more the dollar value will deflate and less countires will use dollar.

You are deflating dollar with any foreign product purchase. There is no reason for producing generic goods overseas other than to accumulate wealth for people who are trading foreign goods, citizens or not. Believing in capitalism is almost as bad as believing in socialism - the mathematical requirements for ideal capitalism cannot be met, it will always require tuning such as antitrust legislature. Believing in that if you spent less dollars on foreign good means that it's good for country is retarded.

If somebody decides to buy Duck instead of 3M, it's fine. If everybody decide to buy Duck, 3M will stop being produced and trading balance will worsen.Tape example is not important but it is important with complicated expensive goods which are unique in a way and produced overseas.

You are probably imagining that if everyone buys same foreign thing cheaper everybody wins. You are ignoring capitalism if you do.

You are ignoring the complex relationships that exist in this world, the ruble probably lost value because they decided to print more money. And when you are already not trusted by investors to be faithful to a certain standard of "limited money supply", then your coin will lose value.

The value of the dollar is not dependent on the US alone nor it is it dependent on the 50 state market for its valuation, the US dollar is the currency of choice for all oil transactions in the world, it is the coin of reference or backup for any cross border transactions, so not only does it have a lot more to back up its status and value around the world it also has a privileged position in the world economy, add to that the fact that the US has never defaulted on its debts, the fact the FED decided to print trillions of dollars was ignored because investors believe and have full faith and credit on the US government, which with Trump current political climate, they are losing some of that faith and taking refuge in the japanese Yen.

The russian economy tanked because the entire country has the curse of having oil, and as long as prices are good you are flying in tall cotton, but you are also exposed to what will happen when prices drop, which is what happened in late 2014 with the commodities market crash.

The fact that all these things happened world wide, has actually very little to do with capitalism, the commodity market crash of 2014 for example was almost an entirely China unwillingly and unknowingly created and centrally planned crisis that had a domino effect on the Oil demand, a market which was being flooded by the US and Saudi Arabia. That drop in demand in the commodities market was foretold also by the sudden drop in price of Coal and Steel.

>mah global trading

Corsair. I think their budget cases are excellent quality for the price. I'll always recommend their budget cases for first time builders instead of some cheap chink crap which is difficult to work in. Other than that, I avoid all of their other products. I'm not sure why, but it just feels wrong.

MSI. Every motherboard I have bought from them have failed on me within a year or been DOA. I have several friends and coworkers who swear by them though, so perhaps I just have bad luck with their products.

How about brands you swear by but get shit on by everyone else?

For me, it would have to be Gigabyte. I have bought several motherboards and video cards from them and not once have they failed, or had problems. While their components kind of have a cheap, tacky looking gamer aesthetic to them that might put some people off, I believe they are great value for the cost, and from my experience they are reliable. I'm honestly not sure where the hate comes from; if anyone could inform me, it would be highly appreciated.

>the ruble probably lost value because they decided to print more money.
Nope, ruble lost the value because the oil export was largely providing it's value. The loss of value was hardened because of import dependency. Learn Russia lesson, don't ignore trade balance. BTW Putin said that world economy would crash with oil<$80, it served him well.
>the US dollar is the currency of choice for all oil transactions in the world
It won't be the same if USA reduces domestic production too much and I have written it already. USD is not irreplacible currency.
USA performance is the only thing supporting the dollar, it has no gold equivalent.
> is more complicated than just buy more american shit instead of shit made overseas. It is not only impossibly to do what you suggest, you also would never be able to afford it.
1) If it is impossible to produce something in USA, I probably won't be able to afford it.
2) The dollar is only as valuable as well USA performs. There IS some inertion in markets but if USA drops trade balance too low dollar WILL be replaced. There is no abstract value in dollar, and even if there was, every financial pyramide comes to end.
