i7 7700k or wait for ryzen
>>60411647
Ryzen is already out?
ryzen.
ryzen
>>60411647
ryzen
multicore will continue to improve over the lifespan of ryzen while the 7700k will only begin to bottleneck
>>60411647

>>60411647
Ryzen has been out for a while now m8.
but isn't ryzen a joke? i remember reading this board a couple months ago and eveyone made fun of the leaked tests
and AMD stock crashed
so?
also regarding to this, i7 wins:
http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-7700K-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-1800X/3647vs3916
what gives?
if for gaming, go with the i7
anything else, Ryzen
keep in mind that "waiting" when it comes to hardware is never ending, there are hardly any (vital) pc components that aren't obsolete within 6months-1year
>>60411917
I forgot to add: the "anything else = Ryzen" comes with the caveat that I heard mixed things from audio ppl

can i expect a big improvement?
how many instances of reaktor can I open in fl studio at the same time?

>>60411896
>but isn't ryzen a joke?
It simply wrecks intel's current HEDT chips while being more efficient. Gaymurs will still still buy delidlake CPUs with cum TIM because muh single thread though.
>>60411896
>http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-7700K-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-1800X/3647vs3916
>Shitty CPUboss style comparison site
They greatly oversimplify the issue. There's so much more to this issue than what those websites present.
>and AMD stock crashed
Because the stock market is always a great indicator of product quality. /sarcasm
>>60411896
userbenchmark is crap
In actual gaming the 7700K is ahead around 6%
This legitimately doesn't matter for most games.
In games that actually use the extra threads properly this happens
>>60412082
I myself am not an audio guy, but from an Q6600 (oh hey, that was my last cpu as well) you will have noticable improvements either way, Ryzen or i7, both have more cores (well, the i7 threads) and clock speeds, so
But I'm pretty sure the flstudio/audio community forums are filled with Ryzen/i7 comparisons, so you should get that info straight from the horse's mouth
6 core ryzen with stock cooler and Mobo to OC it
Will save you about $200 and you'll get 95% performance in most games and even better performance in highly multithreaded ones
>>60411896
>AMD stock crashed
AMD stock is 3x what it was a year ago. Anyone complaining about the price just bought at the wrong time. Protip: if a company is all over the news and their stock is at record highs, it's a bad time to buy.
>>60411917
>if for gaming, go with the i7
Correction: if the only, and I mean ONLY, thing you want to do is push as high a framerate number as possible in a game that doesn't utilize multiple threads very well while disregarding your minimum and average framerates, go with the i7
>>60411896
>>60411896
i7 "wins" in that benchmark because they have an enormous bias towards single core. They admit it themselves in their FAQ. Don't bother looking at their calculated overall result, look at the single core vs multi core results. Also, you might want to compare it to the simiarly priced 1700X.
>>60411896
>>60411647
>wait
u wot m8
7700k gets better average framerates in some games but the framerate is not as consistent because Intel basically cranked up the clocks to compete. Get a 1600 and OC it to ~4GHz with an aftermarket cooler, you'll spend less money for about the same performance.

Okay, it loses in games, and a PC is for more than just games. But when I look up things like HEVC encoding, the i5-7700k still wins or matches the 1800X. Isn't the whole point of MOAR COREZ to boost things like encoding? If it can't even do that, what the fuck is your point? Compiling the Linux kernel is faster--big fucking whoop. At what point do you stop being a fanboy nigger and just accept that AMD's offering is worse?

Handbrake supports HEVC, infact SPECwpc (which is a constant file) specifies you use HEVC
>>60418726
And it did, in recent games the 8150 is outperforming the 2500K with both at stock clocks.
Sure it took seven fucking years migrate from two threads being used to six threads in a typical game, but it did happen. The jump from six to eight should take a smaller amount of time.

>I remember when people told me the same thing when Bulldozer came out
This is such a fucking asinine comparison. Bulldozer single threaded performance relative to Sandy Bridge was much, much worse than Ryzen single thread vs Kaby Lake, and that was also at a time when single threaded performance was even more important due to the general lack of multithreading in games and otherwise.
The bottom line is Ryzen single threaded performance is good enough that it won't matter in 99% of situations plus you can get on AM4 now and upgrade with the same mobo in 3 or 4 years when a worthy successor comes out.
