i7 "wins" in that benchmark because they have an enormous bias towards single core. They admit it themselves in their FAQ. Don't bother looking at their calculated overall result, look at the single core vs multi core results. Also, you might want to compare it to the simiarly priced 1700X.

7700k gets better average framerates in some games but the framerate is not as consistent because Intel basically cranked up the clocks to compete. Get a 1600 and OC it to ~4GHz with an aftermarket cooler, you'll spend less money for about the same performance.

This is such a fucking asinine comparison. Bulldozer single threaded performance relative to Sandy Bridge was much, much worse than Ryzen single thread vs Kaby Lake, and that was also at a time when single threaded performance was even more important due to the general lack of multithreading in games and otherwise.

The bottom line is Ryzen single threaded performance is good enough that it won't matter in 99% of situations plus you can get on AM4 now and upgrade with the same mobo in 3 or 4 years when a worthy successor comes out.
