So, with the new wave of ransomware going around, I tried to infect an virtual machine with a ransomware with the antivirus I happen to own (AVG) and it didn't detect a shit. (Check this out https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/2ffd9ba7b5dbccf734da02498fa2a6af8caaf8b9f98d4b32bc226516eee5c832/analysis/)
So, I need a new one, I don't care if you have to pay for it, but better if it's free.
Thanks mates.

Why don't you install an OS which isn't deeply flawed instead?

Just check if you have the latest updates. They already patched the NSA exploits the Ransomware was using
If you have a firewall blocking inbound connections and are physically able to recognize patterns (ie. not completely retarded) you're fine.
Gotta love all the autists from /v/ who screech about having to update and thinking your computer can be magically hacked by thin air.

It sure can be hacked from your local network though.
Got a stupid sister? Bam, your computer is infected just by being on the same network.
The ransomware probes port 445 on local networks looking for SMB services (ON by default, and actually tricky to turn off) and exploits a vulnerability allowing remote code execution (and running a copy of itself) automatically, just because your computers were both on at the same time.

I know all that. Blocking inbound connections in windows firewall is literally enough, be it LAN or WAN.
