How about a thread on current pc fans. Instead of this being a linux distro forum.

I'm looking for fans that aren't noctua I need 2 intake and 1 or 2 exhaust

I think I'll end up going for the Corsair 120mm twin pack for intake because they are only £15. Value to performance ratio is there.

My list of fans I've looked into are:

Aerocool Shark 12cm Quad LED 15 Blade Fluid Dynamic Bearing Fan - Blue £6.95

ARCTIC F12 PWM Rev.2 £5.74

be quiet! Pure Wings BL046 3-Pin 120 mm £9.33

BitFenix BFF-BLF-P12025B-RP - Spectre PWM 120mm Fan Blue LED - Black £6.95

Coolink SWiF2-1200 Fan 120P £8.99

Scythe Slip Stream 120mm - computer cooling components (10.70 dB, Black, 0.1 A, 115 g, 120 x 120 x 25 mm, DC12 V) £5.99

Any ideas? Personal experience bargains etc. A ton of the info sites are all dated. You'd be surprised, I've looked at tons of sites over the past few days.

Corsair CO-9050030-WW Air Series SP120 LED 120mm Low Noise High Pressure LED Fan Dual£15.48 are the ones I meant btw.

BitFenix Spectre PRO PWM - Case Fan - 120 mm, BFF-SPRO-P12025WW-RP £8.99

Just got another reeven coldwing 12 for second air cooler fan. Its nice. General real usage is 300-400 first 600 second fan. Keeps my 7700k cool and I can't hear em

http://www.modders-inc.com/reeven-coldwing-fans-review/

I paid 7 bucks
>>
>>60399645
I had an aerocool shark 140mm that started making a trbl noise in 6 mos. currently have CM, Nexus and corsair fans and all have been holding up for over 2 yrs now.
>>

>be quiet! sielent wings2
Are they pwm? I'm on a bit of a budget because I'm buying other stuff too.
I've read great things about that series of fans.
Would the 1000 rpm version be powerful to exhaust a lot intake air do you reckon?
>>
>>60399754
They seem like good budget fans, can't get them in the Uk by the looks if things. All I found was a used one on ebay kek.
>>
>>60399763
Are any of them horizontal? I've heard certain types of bearings and models can have trouble mounted that way.
>>
>>60399796
they are definetly pwm, about the 1000 rpm version i'm not so shure, i'd probably get the 1500/u but that is not an answer you should rely on, google your stuff
>>
>>60399928
I've never heard anything bad about those fans from memory.
Just to pick your brain for a sec... Would they be suited to exhaust?
>>
3 Noctua 120mm PWM fans should do the trick.
>>
>>60400051
I lokked just for you which ones I ordered and it were the 1000/u I actually dont run them on full speed and they are just fine. thus if you are overclocking get a decent CPU cooler
>>
>>60400141
*looked
the loudest noises coming from my pc were the HDD's fut I replaced them with SSD's so you could just think it's passive cooled
>>
>>60399851
I have a cm megaflow 200mm as top exh, seems fine. the shark was a side panel fan so it was vert.
>>
>>60400111
Too pricey for the budget I'm on and there are other quality fans out there. even the redux versions x2 would be £28. Whereas the static pressure Corsairs are £15.

>>60400174
I'll consider these fans non pwm probably. The prices seem to be strange on Amazon, I'll look at other sites. The pwm version of the bequiet 120mm is nearly £20 for one and a Noctua NF-P12 PWM is around £17 for comparison.

I can't make that decision for you

Unless you're running a 1U server or 4-way SLI, chassis fans are snake oil. I thought I needed them when I started building computers, but since then I've been cutting down on them until I stopped using them completely, and I haven't noticed a smidgen of negative impact.
>>
>>60400604
What hardware do you have where you don't need fans on the case?
>>
>>60400654
I've run at least the following without no chassis fans:
>Desktop, Athlon XP 2200+, Gigabyte nForce motherboard with housefire southbridge, GeForce 9500
>Server, same CPU and MB as above, 6-10 HDDs over time
>Desktop, Core i5 2400, housefire GeForce 560, later GeForce 570
>Secondary desktop, Core i5 4570S, GeForce 730
Some others too I can't recall at the moment.
>>
>>60400174
The worst in my experience is usually a GPU fan mounted >>60399851
or a PSU fan suffering from the same: vertical axis orientation. They start to vibrate and whine. Oil dropping out of the sleeve bearing drying out, or vibration wear because no horizontal bearing load - whatever its a real thing. Fortunately replacement is cheap.
>>
>>60400779
>later GeForce 570
Meant to type GeForce 750
>>
>>60400782
I did an gpu passtrough, so the fans doesn't spin up until the VM is powered on thus I have a GTX 980ti ZOTIAC with 3 fans, pretty silent desu
>>
>>60399645
>not noctua fans
why even buy fans then?
>>
>>60400779
I want the fans for partial dust control as well.
Well you are unique I'll give you that. Hard to ask specific questions because you have so many setups
What do you use to cool your cpu's. Does that airflow just circulate then?
>>
>>60400904
Every thread on the internet tries to conclude the choice by saying noctuas.
An example is say for instance coolink fans. You get a pwm version with a free splitter for 2 fans, they're half the price of a the go to Noctua. but they're made by Noctua.
>>
>>60400969
>I want the fans for partial dust control as well.
Just not having the system on the floor reduces dust very drastically.

Also, keep in mind that the PSU fan provides some modicum of airflow.

>What do you use to cool your cpu's.
Just the stock coolers.
>>
>>60401030
And just for the record, inb4 any allegations of thermal throttling, I even wrote assembly code to stress all issue ports of all cores with AVX instructions on the i5 2400, which could run indefinitely with no throttling.

>>60401030
Stock coolers on cpus are loud though.
>>
>>60401118
The old AMD coolers were somewhat loud, but not enough to bother me. The Intel stock coolers are so quite I can't even hear them over the PSU fan when I turn the system on.
>>
>>60401117
What's an SS?
I can't stand that fag.

>>
>>60401131
Well you're not running into problems so cool, but I still want some case fans.
Your approach is a bit unorthodox but if it works then sweet.
>>
>>60401155
Oh, if I knew that I wouldn't have posted it. one of the first images in my search.
>>
>>60401171
I still strongly suspect it's just snake oil. Have you ever tried turning your chassis fans off just to see if it makes a practical difference?
>>
>>60401190
I'#ll try it when I'm swapping over fans. snakeoil would suggest it does nothing. I bet you temps would be lower with fans moving air with good airflow.
>>
>>60401226
>I bet you temps would be lower with fans moving air with good airflow.
Perhaps, but with my CPU at <45° C I can't really say I see a problem.
>>
>>60401249
For the record, when running the aforementioned AVX spin-loop, the CPU reaches equilibrium at just about 80° C.
>>
>>60401306
I know these parts can reach high temps and still be officially ok but I like seeing the cpu as cool as possible.
I have 1060 and most of the time the fans on it don't have to kick in even when playing a game and having videos open, they kick in at 60c.
I want to over clock my i5 so more cool air in and extracting warm air would be beneficial to the longevity of my cpu.
>>
>>60401385
>I like seeing the cpu as cool as possible.
That's what I mean by snake-oil: Stuff that feels good but doesn't actually matter.

>longevity
The longevity of a CPU is not negatively impacted by high temperatures (within reason, of course). If anything, thermal cycling might affect it. I never turn my systems off, so that helps.
>>
>>60401448
>If anything, thermal cycling might affect it. I never turn my systems off, so that helps.
That being said, though, I have never once seen a CPU fail at all other than from overclocking, so I slightly suspect even worrying about CPU longevity is a meme altogether. I've had multiple PSUs fail, and even one or two MBs, but never a CPU.
>>
>>60401448
Like if something is hot and you try to cool it down too fast, that could cause damage yeap.
You could very well be right, no going to say you're wrong. You know your stuff.
I still want some fans though kek.

Why don't more companies make 38mm thick fans? I don't see why they don't considering clearance is usually not an issue for case fans. Also, why are almost all fans larger than 140mm so shit? I just want some decent 200/230mm fans.
