Unless you do huge tweaking in manual mode, they are garbage. The megapixels don't matter at all, the sensor is too small, the wide-angle lens messes up focusing on the edges and makes for terrible photos because of it, and the processing is terrible.

The Iphone manages better quality photos.

I've never owned an Iphone either, but just based on images I've seen, it's flat out better.
I currently own a Z5, and the one thing I would change about it is the camera so that it would have a different lens and better image processing.

It's mindboggling how shit the phones are when their cameras are so damn good.

While megapixel counts haven't been going up in recent generations, sensor pixel sizes have been increasing.
This results in better light capture by the sensor which means better looking and lower noise photos, especially at higher ISOs.

You know the current high end of full frame sensor DSLR and MILC are doing ~24MP?

I mean the models on the *very* high end. Below them there are high resolution models that perform worse in low light / have worse AF and stuff.

But good is relative to phones. If you see a *really* nice image, it was probably made with a standalone camera that had a good lens.

I think It's worth pointing out that the photos produced in this range would be fit for full-size poster printing. When you see that full-wall vinyl printout in your favourite fast-food restaurant, the stock photographist who shot that probaly didn't even have to set it to 36MP, maybe not even 24...
