A bug in AMD Ryzen CPUs make them unable to run some 32-bit operative systems (including XP), and unable to run most 16-bit applications (like old games), even in a virtual machine (does not affect dosbox or qemu because that's emulation).
More specifically, Ryzen throws invalide opcode errors when using INT instructions when VME is enabled (introduced with the Pentium), preventing most 16-bit applications and DOS XMS drivers to work (including freedos).
So Ryzen is not a proper x86 processor, yet no one is talking about it.
How do you AMD shills defend this?
>inb4 why r u using old shit
Typical AMD mentality, if it mostly works, it's good enough.
Is this for real?
Fuck, I play a lot of old shit and just ordered a 1700x

yea, though it won't affect emulators like dosbox, as they don't directly execute software on the host cpu

Weren't 16 bit applications deprecated in x86_64?
>>60390623
Yeah this won't end up like the bunch of other threads you made full of people calling you out and laughing at you.

the question is, can this be fixed with a microcode update?

Yes, and there is an upcoming microcode update from AMD that might fix it. We'll have to see. http://www.tweaktown.com/news/57410/amd-ryzen-microcode-update-improved-ddr4-support/index.html

64bit Windows can't natively run 16bit executables, but 32bit Windows on 64bit CPUs can.

Because Intel never has issues with their CPUs lacking instructions OHHHHH WAIIIIIIIT http://techreport.com/news/26911/errata-prompts-intel-to-disable-tsx-in-haswell-early-broadwell-cpus

Oh, so it's a software thing.
DESU i read that when I was literally 13, so it could have been anything.
> can't run legacy applications in a legacy processor mode in a legacy operating system.
so it's fucking nothing?
>>60391045
64bit windows can't even run applications for previous windows

Hello Intel shill number 674.
For playing older games you should invest in older hardware. Core2 laptops are plenty powerful enough to play most pre-2006 games and they cost less than $100. If you absolutely must play 16-bit games on you main computer, buy Intel. If you want something cheaper to use mostly 64-bit software, buy AMD. This isn't hard.
