Why do you need more than 4 cores anyway? Is your 20 weak cores

Is your 20 weak cores Ryzen really being efficiently used over what you get out of 4 powerhouse intel cores??

Yes.

ideally I'd like 4 powerful cores and at least 16 weaker (e.g. atom or puma) cores.

Virtualization

For most people no. They're gonna pretend to use it and maybe try out some programs occasionally that might use it. But for some people, like the game streamers it was marketed to, it would be nice to be able to run one big program and another by its side as both need the processing power.

Certainly then you have to consider the raw processing power available to others. Servers, other encoding tasks, 3D, virtual machines, encryption/decryption, and so on. Most people don't need these things.

It's a great bargain if you're into the VFIO stuff too if you can tolerate its problems that aren't present in X99 and don't want an 5820K for $200-250 or whatever it goes for these days. The added bonus of some random programs being sped up like 7zip won't hurt either, though this is typically not a big deal unless you're packing and unpacking many, many terabytes for some reason.

That's literally what everyone found in testing. It's only gaming where it comes up short.
>>
>>60388609
You want big.LITTLE? Why tho.
>>
>>60388012
More cores only work if they can do the same project (eg. a game) due to optimization. Otherwise it is like buying a mall and expecting everyone will work at the hot-dog stands.
>>
>>60388609
it makes sense on phones, but it's absolutely pointless on desktops
>>
>>60388820
why not?
powerful cores for single threaded games, many small cores for multithreaded work
it's possible that this would happen because small cores don't take up a lot of space on the die so it's not like intel or AMD would lose money doing this.
>>
>>60388012
Because I'm not 14 years old and don't use my PC as a gaming console

>4 powerhouse intel core
This is at a dead-end. Even Intel is moving to 6 cores soon. Face it, the future is more cores. (No, they won't clock or OC anywhere near as high as the 4 core CPUs)

>>
>>60388969
Unless someone makes a clear breakthrough in single core performance.
>>
>>60389119
You need something instead of silicon for that.
>>
>>60389139
Gallium arse-inide, graphmeme, etc. will save us.

(No they won't.)
>>
>>60388919
Because using small x86 cores instead of GPUs for highly parallel work is retarded, see Larashit.
